While I do agree arlong can be annoying it is coming from his own experience no one is born to hate it is taught or learned through certain interactions not justifying his actions

If you think about Fisher Tiger as being Malcolm X, and the Queen Otohime as being Martin Luther King Jr., you'll see that this part of the story has more parallels with our world's history than one might initially notice. They are trying to achieve the same thing, but in two different ways, just like their counterparts in real life.

I love the lore and commentary introduced in Fishman Island so much. I think that probably Tiger's name comes from the concept of the tiger vs the dragon, wherein the tiger (yin, water, earth, protection, ferocity) climbs a mountain (in this case, the Red Line) to stand off against the dragon (yang, light, heavens, power). Love your discussions after eps <3

If I had to guess, I think Arlong was especially harsh on Nami because of how much she may have reminded him of Koala, who he must blame for her village snitching on Tiger. Even if they didn't look similar, he's very conditioned when it comes to blame by association.
