The Koala part of the backstory is one my favourite small parts of One Piece, it perfectly represents over coming prejudice and trauma through living a normal life with people who you grow to care for even when you least expect it

It's crazy that Macro and his two goons would hear all about Fisher Tiger's tales, how he's against violence and slavery, loved having Koala around to a point where all three of them cried about her leaving... and would STILL turn to kidnapping mermaids like Camie and selling them in to slavery. Arlong was bad, but he at least cared for his own kind. If anyone, Macro turned out the worst from Sun Pirates...

Fisher tiger is such an amazing character. So real and layered. For all the pacing problems in this Arc ( Not to mention Sanjis escapades ) it has so much depth and great writing in it.

You have predetermined hate for arlong, but he's not wrong to be hateful and spiteful here. Jimbe nearly was the same way but he was capable of listening. Arlong has been persecuted his whole life quite literally and just now watched his big brother get murdered at the hands of the people that have attacked his friends and family since fishman can remember. He has a very valid reason of being a shithead, although it's not a good reason, he still has a very strong motive, and you could argue why should he be forgiving when humans haven't? Keep in mind for this discussion, this is ALL the fishmen know of humans. There's no logical reason to think they'd be different. Even when that little girl Koala was on the boat, Arlong knew that she wasn't a threat, so she'd make herself small even if she had ill intentions or not. There is absolutely no reason for Arlong to not think that all humans are the same. This concept is very foreign to us because it's not like we have an understanding of how they are thinking either. All humans we have had contact with our whole lives. The closest thing would be random tribes that aren't associated with humans like headhunter tribes or literally aliens. They don't live in the same vicinity and none of them know each other outside of minor confrontations. I think this is the most profound reason that arlong is the way he is. Not out of ignorance, but out of condition. He's a victim of circumstance.

Arlong may have been more like Hordy had he not spent time with Fisher Tiger. Also, being around Koala despite his hatred towards her allowed him to tolerate Nami on his crew. Yes, he was horrible to Nami, but Hordy would never let a human on his crew regardless of the reason. I have a strong feeling that towards the end of the One Piece story, when all the shit hits the fan, we will see Arlong again. I’m predicting a second break out of Impel Down

LET THEM EXPERIENCE THE WORLD AND CHARACTERS FOR THEMSELVES!! I understand One Piece is so lovable, but when you fail to contain your excitement by making comments like that, you DO spoil and affect the viewers' experience.
