okay I'll give an actual opinion, one that does not contain spoilers despite knowing things. Law shambled the Straw Hat's hearts not just for funsies (though that is a hilarious thought) but because he genuinely didn't think it would be so easy to convince Luffy to ally with him. He knew what Luffy did in Ennie's Lobby and Impel Down, and he saw what Luffy did in Sabaody and Marineford and when he realized this magical fighting crackhead ended up on Punk Hazard he realized he had no choice but to form an alliance with him to prevent this lunatic from destroying the island and wrecking his own shady plans. so he thought up something on the fly and asked Luffy to be his ally with the intent of limiting Luffy's insanity. it doesn't work lmfao but he doesn't back out because he knows that without a tangible goal Luffy will just flatten the island and he has some shady goal that he's after and is stuck working with the crackhead. and as I always say, Law is a baby girl and I love him if you're caught up go on youtube and look up melontree she has a great vid on Law

I mean, yeah. that was probably his intention. Law had no reason to believe that Luffy would honor Law's deeply held belief of "give and take" and Law decided to "take" first to ensure that Luffy would comply with his ideal that 'all actions require a commiserate action from a separate party. (this is seen when Law freed Jean Bart and THEN asked him to join his crew, he believes in give and take but first provides the 'give' and expects the 'take' without ever saying it outright" I have bought Law's book, a (admittance non cannon novel that tells the story of Law starting from his .... well this channel has no spoilers so if ya know ya know) law is crazy, he doesn't know what is going on with mugiwara no luffy and just says, okay let's be buddies and you can be a sane representative of my my shady goals until we see why or why not this is shady

Whenever you girls catch up, you should check out a few videos that delve into the matter of how absolutely TERRIFYING Luffy might look to the average person.
