the briquettes (fire starters for coals/furances/chimneys meanings are 2 fold : - along with the other stuff, it implies that it's definitely not a janitor or night guard, why would they have briquettes to start a fire? - satoru is realizing that the person who dropped this not only is the serial killer from this timeline because of the OBVIOUS "kidnapper kit 101", but the briquette implies that the person is not only a kidnapper/murderer but also is an arsonist potentially, and that ties it with what happened in the recent "present" timeline of Airi's house being set on fire by the bad guy. Which effectively makes satoru realize that it's not multiple killers or culprits from 2 different timelines or working together, but ONE person, both the kidnapper AND arsonist (not a groupie or partner or aquaintance or copy cat), but the actual SAME person is BOTH.

The box had charcoal and a little stove to use it with. The killer had chosen that bus for the same general purpose - hiding out for a while, so he brought along a way to provide some heat, just as the kids did. Satoru realized this, which is why he became angry - he chose the same spot the killer did, and came within a hair's breadth of a disastrous ending as a result.
