Without L the World is just a Word

bittenbydust

I was waiting for your reaction the entire day, and I am not disappointed. The denial! :D This episode has some pretty drastic changes compared to the Manga, if you're interested: Unfortunately for whatever reason they removed L's final thoughts in the Anime. In the Manga, when seeing Light smiling above him, L thinks "Light Yagami... I knew it. I was right. But...". The Manga also has more internal monologue of Rem about how she has been used by Light. The Anime also added a lot of scenes: The flashback to the orphanage and the bells, Misa singing, the blackout right before Rem kills them, and most importantly the scenes in the rain and afterwards, where L asks if Light ever said the truth and says that they will soon part ways, are all Anime additions. In the Manga L's death happens even more suddenly!

Amazing episode....its not Solo Levelling Season 2 though.....my refreshing finger is getting tired. EDIT: You posted it like 3 minutes after I commented - Thanks! xD

Jay

The grin on Light's face looking down on L at the end is just so disappointing. Our boy deserved the world </3

Wojciechu

Whoa, is that the first time Haylo has left her seat?! The shook was real :D Great episode.

Iirc this episode was directed by the same guy who directed a majority of AoT and it shows. It has such a cool eerie feeling to it, I love it. The rain scene is one of my favorites in the whole show. The silence as he essentially hits Light with "You're a two-faced motherfucker and we both know it." is so fuckin gooood. And the fact that they're out there, all alone, rain loud af, like he's giving Light the opportunity to be truthful with him just once, before it's all over. And Light won't even give him that! "I figured you'd say that." He seems disappointed but not surprised. I saw a comment way back comparing it to finally finishing a long game and wanting to shake your opponents hand, and I can see that too. Also don't be fooled by Misa's cute exterior, she's not innocent, she's a selfish murderer just like Light. Arguably worse cause she'll kill innocent people if it means she gets to be with Light (a guy she doesn't even know and has never showed any real interest and barely even respects her).

Vouching for anime in the early 2000's was hard, even with a compelling great story as this one. Chills rewatching this!

Xenon Media

"What's the point of the show if L dies?" - If you two ever find an answer, let me know.

Stupidname02

OG Trigun is pretty solid. Technically released before 2000, but it aired on cartoon network in 2003.

Bilal Çörtük

This is the last episode of the anime for me. But the ending I wanted was: L catches Kira. Light's father kills his son first, then himself, as he said before, and it ends.

지원

this is best reaction for me lol but damn R.I.P L

Fajar Kurniawan

Because the show is called "Death Note" It's not "L The Great Detective"

Veritas

Yes I suppose I am Batman

Xenon Media

Ah, the good old adventures of Valentinez Alkalinella Xifax Sicidabohertz Gombigobilla Blue Stradivari Talentrent Pierre Andri Charton-Haymoss Ivanovici Baldeus George Doitzel Kaiser III... Allegedly. That aside, so happy to see people still appreciate Trigun. It was one of my first ever anime. XD

Oh! That Robin

After seeing this episode I really wanna see ya'll eventually react to the Japanese Live Action movies by VIZ media. Especially the first three. If you love L, you'll love those <33

Zurveyor

I've only seen it before in AOT at the end of season 1 end credit reveal, both events are on the same level of shock/disbelief :D

Alan Bun

I do have an answer but it's quite hard to discuss without spoilers. Even though I don't think they read comments on here directly to be safe I'll save it for when they're done with the series.

Alan Bun

If you get the chance, I'd recommend reading the book "Death Note: Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases". It's basically a side story with L and Naomi Misora, and explains how they meet and covers the case he worked on with her previously. It doesn't directly change anything about the show but it's some nice additional content and quite a fun read.

Ben Asay

This was a depressing episode.. 😖 Wish we could have saved him..

IAMONE

I read this with the English Dub Voice in mind

Nervous

the rest of the series is very good. poetic ending as L knew if he failed then the only solution would be two opposite proteges who can each do what the other can't to go above and beyond his own capabilities as one man with social and deductive blindspots

Zonbi

There's really no reason to feel that bad for Misa tbh. She killed innocent people several times in addition to villains. She's almost as twisted as Light.

PBnJ

Ehhh that ending is not realistic. While L is smarter than light imo, L was always at a huge disadvantage because he didn’t have all the pieces until it was too late. Light winning makes more sense tbh he probably could’ve done it earlier and still found a way to drive out suspicion. L death was inevitable way earlier than this episode if you think about it. And i rather the Chief die peacefully than going through that. Or live and take care of his family that’s already traumatized.

Billy Dancel

You know it's absolutely monumental when Haylee walks away from her seat. I. Don't. Blame. You.
