I watched Death Note before One Piece. So I never realized Kazuki Yao (Franky Bon Clay, etc.) voiced that new Shinigami.

The point where Light says "If Dad writes a name in the notebook..." it wasn't that Light was concerned about whether his Dad goes to Heaven/Hell, it was that Light would need to kill his Dad with his own notebook in 13 days time in order to "prove" that the 13 day rule is true, and continuing to show Light's innocence to everyone else. I also think that the Light we see now is almost blinded by his own arrogance. He had to act so carefully before because of L, but in L's absence, and after killing L, he has become cocky, which I think is why he is making mistakes and his plan isn't working properly, because he is ultimately underestimating Near/Mello. Also, for all the hate Light deservedly gets, I think his voice actor does such a good job of portraying both versions of him. If you ever want any other shows that he's in or are just looking for something different in the future, I would totally recomment Steins;Gate.

In the English version Shidoh the Shinigami has a certain nerdy voice which I loved. He really was just looking to get his book back. It can’t get any cuter than that 😆 🤓 📕

Sidoh is hilarious, I am glad you ended up liking him :D Unfortunately he gets barely any screentime in the Anime. There is an entire subplot in the Manga that is missing from the Anime: Mello blackmails the US president by saying that he will use the Death Note to make him launch a nuclear strike if he does not do as he's told. The president contacts L/Light and asks for help. Light knows that the Death Note cannot do that, because a nuclear strike would kill other people, which is not allowed, so the president would just die of a heart attack. He does not reveal that, however, and Light gets command over a special Squad from the president. They use these troops to raid Mello's hideout. However their helmets are suddenly lifted from their faces and they all die. Sidoh is the one removing the helmets and Mello's underling Snyder, who has made the eye deal, kills them via surveillance cameras. With the raid failed, the US president later shoots himself out of fear of being controlled and essentially starting World War 3. So the raid shown in the Anime is actually the second one. Also in the Manga Light is sure that Matsuda will be the one to make the deal for the Shinigami eyes. As expected, Matsuda volunteers, but Light's father insists on doing it himself. So this part is not going the way Light planned, which unfortunately does not come across in the Anime. So if his father had written a name into the Death Note, Light would have had to kill him 13 days later to keep up the illusion of the rule.

It just occurred to me that his dad must not have had much time left, even before doing the Eye Exchange, since he died a short time after. Maybe he would have died just a couple of days/weeks after if he hadn't made the deal. Not sure if that makes me feel better or worst.

Anime is awesome in the way that it simply brings us to our feels. I find these stories better than any regular tv.
