E29 - Father

Even when Soichiro had Mello cornered with the notebook, he gave him a chance to surrender — in the same moment Light can only think about killing him. Really shows how far the apple has fallen from the tree.

Light didn't care at all. He knew the eye deal would half his dad's life and sent him to the front lines to die. There is no defending his actions. Even while his dad is dying, the only thing he was thinking about was how to manipulate him. You don't have to defend his behavior at all. Light will continue to upset you lol he's a psychopath with a god complex and no respect for living or dead.

This is my first time watching in Japanese. I was curious about this—you guys talked about it last time too; how it is hard to discern if Light’s own family would be an exception to his rule. In both languages I couldn’t tell if he cared for them enough to save them but instead he throws them in the fire with no second thought. It’s weird because we hear him say: “If things get bad, I'll have to kill Sayu” and “In the worst case scenario I’ll have to kill everyone there” (this includes his family). It’s like even though we’re hearing his thoughts, his mind is so warped that I put aside the horrible thoughts and tried to take his “objective and logical” mindset into account and held out some hope. But even when he showed some respect at the end here it doesn’t equate to anything since he didn’t think twice about cutting his father’s life short. It is frustrating because I wanted so badly for Mr. Yagami to find out but given the circumstances my heart couldn’t bear such a good man like him finding out in his final moment that his son is a despicable heartless demon. The only consolation is losing both Mello and his father in the end is the equivalent of killing L.
