What a beautiful but sad tale of the hero of the south. I can’t imagine taking on responsibility like that and knowing what was to come. :,(

It was definitely grim that the Hero of the South foresaw his own death, but surely he could take solace in the fact that he knew another hero would follow in his footsteps and that his sacrifice would not be for nothing. In a similar vein, it's admirable in a way that Schlacht the Omniscient took part in that battle; there's no way he didn't also foresee his own demise, and even that his master the Demon Lord would eventually fall. And even though some of the small gifts and spells that Frieren receives can be considered useless, I think she chooses to accept them because that's also how Himmel did things: he believed in accepting gestures of appreciation no matter how small, that way the other party can express their gratitude and avoid feeling indebted.

I like to think Frieren used her see through clothes spell to spot the sword demon before she could sneak attack them.
