IT'S HERE! I've been waiting for the G4 reveal since Sabo's reveal. THERE'S THE G!!!! Yes Oda made us manga readers wait a week, and the studio also made all the anime watchers wait a week. Chapter 783 (which ended with Luffy saying Gear 4th like ep725) was released on my birthday 11 years ago, April 13, 2015. Then the next chapter (784) was just titled "Gear Fourth." It was a great (unintentional) birthday present from Oda.

You might not remember, but this actually isn't the first time devil fruit awakenings were mentioned. During Impel Down, Crocodile said that the Jailer Beasts were also awakened devil fruit users, e.g. the Minotaurus or Minozebra. Although they were Zoan types, not Paramecia like Doflamingo

gear 3rd is actually bone balloon where he inflates his bones, gear 4th is muscle balloon where he inflates his muscles. its really hard to get tired from using your devil fruit because, generally speaking, they dont actually take much energy to use, even for awakenings. Luffy isnt getting tired in gear 4th because of his devil fruit form its because of the large amount of haki he is using.

The first time we heard of awakening was in Impel Down, Crocodile said that the monster guards were Zoan awakening. Just a converational line back there, more important in the New World.

I held off this time but last re-watch I came back to 726 every time I got pissed at Doflamingo (which was a lot). That first Kong Gun in G4 is one of the most satisfying punches ever. And How Luffy can just man handle Mingo, the guy who needs to have control. Just chefs kiss

Great reference to Nightmare Luffy. It looks kind of similar. 😊 Also, just as a reminder, it is not the first time you hear about aweking. During Impel Down, Crocodile says that the Demon guards (Minotaurus, Minokoala, MinoZebra, MinoRhino) were awekened Devil fruit users. This is the first Paramethia using it though and it doesn't look remotely similar 😅

I'm so happy I got to see you laugh so much at Gear 4. It still reminds me of when I saw that episode the day it came out, and there were tons of people complaining about the design, saying it looked awful and not serious at all. I laughed so hard then because, do you really think Luffy is going to fight seriously without being funny? And by the way! The "flames" design that the Haki gives him in Gear 4 is a reference to his Devil Fruit; that's why, as the design is forming, they superimpose it onto his fruit.

There is also a case to be made for Logia awakenings on punk hazard where the island changed climate based on the powers used. But i dont think that was ever confirmed but a theory based on what we heard here.

That's never has been stated and more a theory territory. Let's be honest, that's a retcon the community came up with to explain why we didn't see any black hardening haki back at marineford when obviously almost everyone involved used it (it was even stated when Marco and Vista cut Akainu). So yeah it seems pretty reasonnable to think that's because only haki user can see it but: - Luffy by that time already used conqueror haki 2 times (Amazon Lily and when saving Ace). - Are you agree that Luffy stopping himself of attacking Mihawk to prevent his arms to be cut off is Luffy observation haki awakening ? Same with Koby who has awaken obsevation haki during this battle. So they both used haki and we still didn't see any black armement visuals. How explain that then? You have to be an haki user and being aware of it? Hmm.. Seems quite far-fetched to me but still a possibility. Maybe you have to master it to a certain level to be able to see it but i feel like it would have been explained by Rayleigh if it was the case. Or we (as a viewer) didn't see the action through the eyes of an haki user maybe? For a while, the main theory was that the visual effect was just for us the audience and no characters actually sees it in the manga/anime, but this theory died with Law vs Vergo. Or it's just Oda who didn't wanted to show it without explaining it and keep that for post Marineford but he did it anyway with observation haki/mantra so again quite strange. Imo, the truth is simplier: Oda didn't thought yet of the way he wanted to visually represent the haki before the timeskip even if the haki concept was there pretty much from chapter one with Shanks. And that's okay, Oda is still the Goat. TLDR: Your statement is a (strong) possibility but not a fact. I think we'll have the final answer in ten years when the Wit studio remake reach Marineford, will they animate black armement haki? That will be interesting! (Sorry for the long post, I went full OP reddit mode here lmao)

Conqueror's haki is what everyone calls it, "color of the supreme king" is sorta a more "direct" translation that carries the more direct intention of the Japanese language, but as you know, translating languages is an imperfect art a lot of times. The fan base just calls it Conqueror's, so no worries, they didn't update the term, it's just using the old official manga translation here

it depends on whoever is translating it, but Conqueror's Haki and the Color of the Supreme King is the same thing. Romanized, it's "Haoshoku no Haki". There are multiple translations, it depends which one draws you or feels right for you. The first translation I had was, "The King's Disposition" and I always had chills.

What you remember from Thriller Bark is Nightmare Luffy which has a similar aesthetic/vibe also back then when luffy used gear 2+3 to defeat moria after the fight i think chopper mentioned he would burst if he continued like that, so gear 4 i think i actually gear 2+3 contained and harmonized with haki and applied in an intelligent was throughout the body

Crocodile mentioned in alabasta, that he trained his fruit powers and perfectioned them. It could be implied that Crocodile had also awakened powers (but i think this was never confirmed not denied).
