Hey guys, just FYI, not a spoiler. Not sure if this was mentioned before, but you'll notice Ukai's (grandson) VA change at some point during this season (ep 9 I believe). That's because his VA since season 1 unfortunately passed away during production. It took me a while to get used to it, tbh. RIP Kazunari Tanaka

Honestly up there with my favourite episodes in the whole show considering how much growth Tsukishima went through that lead to this point. Using proud felt like a understatement to what this meant. Also, I always love seeing peoples first time reaction to this episode every single time man.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but the VA was instructed not to participate in any of the group happy moments/screams. They wanted him to save it for this moment. So he was able to let it all out.

It was a long wait for Tsukki's moment, and it will always be glorious. I just love the camaraderie Team Gym 3 forged during the training arc, so you get such wonderful interactions between Hinata and Tsukki.

Fun quote from Tsuki's Japanese voice actor Kōki Uchiyama about this episode (spoilers only for this episode): 'When Tsukishima finally blocks Ushijima... he screams in a massive, cathartic breakthrough. The directing staff had told me for a long time to keep Tsukishima's cool and cynical demeanor intact, and explicitly told me not to celebrate or show excess joy during previous blocks or points. So when he finally let it all out, it was a massive, pent-up release for both the character and my acting." TLDR: As well as being the first block against Ushijima this was Tsuki's first time openly celebrating winning a point in the entire show! So cathartic!

When you think about it, Tsukki is probably most complex and fully developed characters in Haikyu. He’s a mystery when we first meet him. Then we get to know his sarcastic personality. Finally we learn his back story. It all culminates to this moment. As much as I love almost all the characters, Tsukki remains my favorite.

As you can tell... We all waited for the Halo around the Moon. The last baby crow just woke up. Talk about a slow-burning character growth. Symbolism is huge in Haikyuu. Hinata is a ray of light/ sun. That's why he is the exact opposite of Tsuki.

Also, it’s a small line, but I love when Daichi says, “…We’re going to keep falling forward!” This revived Karasuno team understands the struggle better than any other team imo - Perseverance is so ingrained into their team dna at this point.

Mentioning a fun tid-bit about the statistics from the manga, but apparently no one in the prefecture had ever actually shut out Ushiwaka, which is why the stadium reacts so strongly too. Absolutely cinema!!!

Sports is one of my favorite genres in anime and I’ve watch quite a few. Tsukishima’s character development is still, to me, the best out there. It just feels so real and grounded and his character is so layered and human. Absolutely loved your reactions to my GOAT getting his moment!

I loved that Tsuki still tried to rationalise it at first. "It's just one block... this is just a club." It was the perfect way to get a callback to his character during the training camp arc. And so to see it finally click for him in this moment: all that hard work and extra training he put in just for this "one block", this "one point out of 25", was truly and well worth it. It's no wonder it's a fan favourite moment.

Another voice actor once said, “When everyone else is shouting with high energy, being the only one who has to stay calm and perform is mentally very difficult.” Most voice actors naturally feel the urge to get swept up in the excitement of the performances around them. Kouki Uchiyama’s acting career began when he was three years old, appearing in TV dramas as a child actor. Around the age of fifteen, he transitioned seriously into voice acting. I was a fan of the *Haikyuu!!* manga before it was adapted into an anime, and when Uchiyama was cast as Tsukishima, I was overjoyed and thought, “What an excellent casting decision by the production team!” (At that time, the manga chapter corresponding to S3 Ep4 did not yet exist.) It is said to be extremely difficult to convey emotion through a quiet, muttered, almost whispering voice. I once showed Uchiyama’s performance for the people at a game company who was responsible for casting voice actors, and they exclaimed, “This is incredible!”　The work I showed them at that time was a table tennis anime called "Ping Pong." Even now, more than ten years later, seeing people overseas cheer and cry over Tsukishima’s roar brings tears to my eyes as well. He truly fulfilled the role of Tsukishima brilliantly. Of course, he can confidently play bright characters like Hinata as well as villains (do you remember? He was the spider boss in *Demon Slayer* Season 1), and he can even express emotion using nothing but the names of rice ball fillings. I would be happy if, someday, you became interested in some of his other works as well. Haylo&Kiss Thank you for discovering Haikyuu!! in 2026. Sorry for the long message. With love from Japan.
