She really ate in this one .... also in the manga when she's eating the semla the writing around her goes from hm hm to crunch crunch.... semla is soft.. it doesn't "crunch"

Big Mom's character has many interesting connections with the psychological archetype of the Devouring Mother. As the dark side of the maternal, the Devouring Mother robs their child of their independence through excessive compassion, much like Mother Carmel. Big Mom's dream of a country with racial equality is also an echo of this spirit; a misplacement of compassion as equality of outcome inevitably requires force. And of course, the fact that she is literally a devouring mother.

So in the manga panel, there's is a fading Waaaaaaah in the panel where she is eating them as well. And that's usually used as a scream, so yeah it's crazy that she just ate them all one by one and Carmel watched them get eaten and then she ate her last. Very dark, Oda is crazy for doing this but I respect it so much. One Piece is crazy haha

If you think about it, the kids final words were probably what they were saying to try to stop her from eating them sadly. When you look at their exact words they were telling her they were her friend and there was plenty of food for her but it was too late

Can someone confirm? I'm pretty sure Streusen had a kid with Big Mom, and if I remember correctly, it was Perospero, her oldest son. So this guy saw a kid eat a bunch of other kids, laughed, and then proceeded to groom her in every possible way. He's like a level 100 One Piece villain that a side character lol.

Ha ha. This is one thing that is just HEAVILY implied. But never and will never be confirmed. Oda can go dark but you have to surmise it for yourself. Remember, this is supposed to be for "young boys" in Japan. But yes, she ate them. I do wish Oda went more into Linlin's mental condition. She clearly HAS a mental illness.

If you really want to get freaked out, take a look, at Peros Pero, the first son of Big Mom whose father was never named. He looks very similar to Streusen who took Big Mom in at the age of 5. That thought always sickened me.

Personally I find Big Mom's backstory one of the most shocking things about One Piece, and many other anime - cause it's pretty clear what happened. A lot of sad and shocking things happen, but this one takes the cake...sorry. It's a bold and real choice taken by Oda. Even compared to stuff that happens in other anime, this surpasses the regular level of violence and shock of One Piece, relatively speaking

Originally Big Mom's age was supposed to be 64 and Perospero 51, but after some maths didn't add up well enough for a western audience they were retconned to 68 and 50. It's never been blatantly admitted, but the unofficial canon is that Perospero is Streusen's Son.

I think it's worth to mention that what happened at Lin-Lins "first" tea party is NOT explicitly explained by Oda, but we know facts and it's pretty safe implicitly connect those dots until we have further or a differing explanation: Lin-Lin was eating People around her disappeared Whatever happened scared an elbaph warrior pale It made some other pirate laugh. Lin-Lin acquired Mother Carmel Devil Fruit power.
