Flagellation = being whipped

I just love how this anime portrays women. I fully expected Lihua to be a bratty entitled witch when watching this episode for the first time but the fact that she's just as grounded as every other female character really endeared me to this show. BTW Lihua being so unreasonable in the first episode also wasn't really her fault since lead poisoning (the most likely thing in the whitening powder that's making it poison) can cause behavior changes, like heightened aggression and irritability.

Since it's a technique from the older sisters at the brothel, I think it's probably closer to "sandwich it in between your fruits," but then again it might be "stick your fruits in his face"...

This is one of my favorite episodes of the entire series, I just love that we get this side of Maomao where she doesn't really care who it is, if you're actively hurting someone through incompetence she will aggressively correct that behavior

Flagulation means whipping with a whip or cane. Basically the eunich was punished for failing to collect all the powder, even if it was the lady in waiting that hid it. if you want to pronunce Gyokkuo's name easier, just think of Goku from dragon ball z, and instead of Go, say GueeO, so it's Gyokou pronunciation, even if it's spelled more complex.

Great episode, I love MaoMao

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Maomao did not tell Lady Lihua about motorboating. It was ummm..., something else.

Kokuutou92

Not Gyokkuo. 玉葉 is pronounced Gyokuyou, 玉=gyoku meaning jade, 葉=yo meaning leaf (not "you" as in the second person pronoun).

Cyber

I am aware. I am learning Japanese for a couple of years now. But they're struggling to pronounce it so I'm giving them an alternate short hand if they're stuck with it 😊 That's why I said it would be EASIER for quick discussions, I made no claims that it's the perfect pronunciation 😂

Michael Cyr

The lady Maomao (normally) serves is Lady Gyokuyou, though her name is normally pronounced as if it were just 2 syllables: gyo kyu.

Thanny

If you want to know what Maomao explained to Lihua, look up the Japanese term "paizuri". But not when anyone's looking over your shoulder.

Drift3r

The Maomao smack was so wild but well deserved.

Bruh relax, I never say anything like that. They've never seen Dragon Ball btw, or they would have noticed DB references in OP. The only anime they've seen that they didn't react to is HxH. If you take out the first y it'd be Gokuyo. Add the y, gyo-ku-yō, 3 syllables for her English name.

Cyber

I am relaxed. I wasn't intending to sound antagonistic in any way shape or form 😂 Like I said. Thanks for the context and clarification regardless. I was just highlighting that I'm aware that what I said is not the perfect pronunciation but it's close enough to be able to at least reference the character without having to describe all their features :)

I love what this show does to you girls im crying at your comedy

Svenja

I think so too & I think Haylo thought about that as well judging by her expression when Kiss asked what Maomao meant 🤣 But that comment was delivered so perfectly

I was enjoying the show and characters before this episode, but I wasn't fully sold yet. Then Maomao slapped the lady-in-waiting, and I loved her so much for that. I was pretty much all-in after that. Looking back, I'm not 100% sure why she felt a bit flat to me beforehand. I think it's because she's such a stoic character that it was hard to tell (apologies to the author) whether that was bad writing or just characterization. That scene showed me there was real depth to her. In my defense, a friend was introducing me to the show and we were binging episodes, so I wasn't exactly doing deep character analysis between them, haha.

On of my favorite episode in the first season.
