Grain elevators have lots of explosion/combustion risk with all the grain dust that kicks up from moving it around in bulk - super interesting to see it represented in a historic / period anime!

This episode of Apothecary Diaries made me understand the first episode of SpyXFamily. Loyd fills the warehouse with flour dust to keep the bad guys from shooting and I didn't understand that until Maomao explained about how airborne flour is combustible!

There's no reason to believe that pipe belonged to the guy with the eyepatch.

One of my favorite things about this episode is that Maomao's blowing up a room in the Verdegris house was actually also mentioned in episode 1, it's why she ran out of there so quickly back then.

I don't think the pipe was that military guys pipe. It was just on the ground while he was investigating the fire

they did a MythBusters episode that was basically about this same phenomenon with the explosion in this episode. It's called the creamer cannon. The myth is about sawdust igniting when it's diffused into the air, but they decided to make a massive one with non-dairy creamer which is a lot more flammable than sawdust or flour.

Yeah, that explosion type is pretty common in agricultural areas. I live in the midwest, and we just had a massive fire in a corn elevator not too far from my town because the dust and particulates from the corn and stuff built up enough pressure that it didn't take much for it to explode, doesn't even need to be an external spark or heat source, it could be from static created by harvest particulate and the metal, or from mechanical parts hitting just the right way or building up just enough heat. You hear about 1-3 elevators catching fire or exploding just about every year in the wider area here.
