CC name is Snow White but I'm just guessing based on what LL says at the end.

I thought it was obvious that her memories were of a long-distant past. Furthermore, the beings that were visible are dressed in something older, and if they occupied a cave or congregated in any other location, you'd imagine that to be difficult to achieve in any time after medieval times. Also, the nun-like person was indicative. She has the symbol. The building the peasants/villagers were stoning had the symbol very clearly shown. So, that suggests that it was something natural or divine or similarly spiritual, therefore accepted. But then it became misunderstood (whatever event happened), resulting in public backlash.
