Slight side track here… a bezoar is what Harry Potter used to save Ron when he got poisoned. That’s why Maomao went crazy over getting something that important! As Jinshi carried her off everyone in the courtyard bowed to him. Nobody bows to a “eunuch”

Finally, what an episode! Welcome ladies to one of the milestones of the show: realizing that EVERYTHING is connected, and we mean EVERYTHING, even side banters, or characters that were shown on screen without a speaking role or name, only to find out later that they've been there the whole time, or that a mystery that was solved (or worse, unsolved) may yet lead to another plot point. I love that the anime showed us those "coincidences" as separate "mystery of the week" format at first (which had a risk of deterring certain viewers) all for the "trust the process" of revealing that all the previous episodes are connected and seeds for a big moment... this will become a recurring pattern. Lakan's reaction that jinshi (whom he suspected to be extremely high up in the hierarchy), is "sullying himself" by walking out with a "lowly birth" girl without giving a damn in front of EVERYONE with no disregard to keeping it on the down low... no other noble person would have done that for a servant. That caught him by surprise that he didn't just buy out maomao for silly gimmicks or to spite him, but because he actually cares! Additionally, depending on what lakan's intentions are, Lakan sending maomao in to appease her curiosity only to see her passed out and being carried out: he doesn't know what happened inside, he just sees maomao being hurt further than when she ran in, with only those nobles there and no other witnesses due to the secrecy of that event.

Once Crunchyroll fixes things, you might want to go back and rewatch. Netflix has a terrible habit of not doing subtitles but instead doing closed captions for the English rewrite. I don't know how bad it is for this show, but it's never good for any show.

21:25 The Netflix version says sad face, but that's not what Maomao said. Another case of English rewriters taking liberties. She wondered why he had that look on his face, and did not try to categorize it. And he doesn't look sad. He looks shocked and then concerned. You seem to be theory crafting based on a bad translation skewing your interpretation of the animation.

For s1 and s2 crunchy subs are better than Netflix. But after watching s3 e1, crunchy subtitles were the absolute worst for s3.

When I first tried to watch the first episode, there were definitely problems. They seem to be fixed now, though.

i'm sorry but this is so funny.. you guys really thought jinshi orchestrated all of this to commit suicide? surely there are simpler ways to achieve this goal no? that's hilarious, ur minds wander into dark places
