E19 - Chance or Something More

This was a masterpiece of an episode and had our minds absolutely reeling at the end. Regardless of whodunit, Jinshi clearly loves Maomao deeply. We cannot wait to get more info and see more of this relationship develop! Thank you all so much for watching with us and we'll see you soon for the next. -Haylo & Kiss 💕

The weaving of information throughout the series has been beautiful

Such a great episode, tying up all these seemingly random poison episodes together. Bravo

He was making a statement tho hahah

yeah I noticed that too. I didn't mind too much until the subtitles said that Jinshi called Maomao by name at the end there..

Crunchyroll has been notoriously ass lately, they also really messed up the subs of the first ep of s3

Lol to be fair, Maomao suffered a serious head injury, so the best protocol would be to not run around jostling the person with said head injury. Though I think (?) in the manga he does start running after he passes the gates xD

Maitea

They did not use Crunchyroll. In their Full Length video, they say they used Netflix because Crunchyroll wasn't loading the episode properly.

Unfortunately, the Netflix subtitles have changed to match the English dub of the show (not that the dub is bad, I think it's good). It's nice for viewers who watch the dub and can have their subtitles actually line up with what the characters are saying, but for certain shows like The Apothecary Diaries, I much prefer the original/Crunchyroll subtitles. The dub subtitles aren't necessarily inaccurate, but I think the flow and tone is better overall in the original captions.

I adore how much symbolism the last scene holds, the image of Jinshi being out in the open, essentially ousting himself as a person of noble birth whilst holding Maomao, leaving behind a trail of blood holds so much meaning. It's almost a forshadowing of the rest of the show, Jinshi choosing love, choosing Maomao above status and his birthright will not be without consequences.

Wow Haylo, you brought up something I never even thought of. From this season so far, Jinshi personally doesn't strike me as the type of person to willfully plan for his own real demise, especially when he's commented on choosing his own future before. I think he's definitely sad that Maomao got hurt saving him from this assassination plot, but you're reaching into a part of Jinshi's character I haven't seen many people do! Now you've got me thinking. This episode is great because we can see that all of the mysteries we've been seeing lately are not just one-off cases, but something that's been converging into a larger, more sinister plot - almost going unnoticed...if not for Maomao. Even the metalworking episode, which I thought it *felt* more filler-y at first, ended up being vital in the end. Thank goodness Jinshi took notice of Maomao that first episode and sought her out, or else he would've lost his poor, pretty head!

This is my first time watching this series so I have no context and I felt the same way after the post episode discussion. Kinda the same way Eren didn't take his friend's Titan powers because he knew he was doing something he didn't want to and he wanted his friends to stop him.
