Kor of the Son

As far as I can tell, Jinshi does not know at this point that he is actually the emperor's son. He thinks he's his younger brother and that's his position. The comment he made about how the emperor needs to hurry up and father a new crown prince was not in reference to himself, it was just in reference to that fact that the emperor has been trying to have a son for a while and has been unsuccessful, with the death of Lihua's baby and with Gyokuyou having a daughter.

I think the job that Gaoshun wants Jinshi to finish is “tending the emperor’s garden.” If he takes a wife, it would be revealed that he’s not really a eunuch, so he wouldn’t be able to do that anymore.

I think his comment was in reference to himself. Technically, since the Emperor has not yet borne a son, Jinshi would be next in line for the throne no matter if he was the son of the Emperor or his little brother. So no matter what, Jinshi needs the Emperor to sire a new son so he can exit the line of succession and hand over the title of "Crown Prince." If Jinshi is actually the son of the Emperor and he's only disguising himself as the younger brother, he'd never want that information to get out - it would spell trouble for the nation and himself. I also think Jinshi doesn't know the truth of his birth, buuttt I think he might suspect something is amiss. I think him wondering "if the child survived" is a suspicion in reference to himself. Because he did cry when Ah-Duo left, and I think that has to amount to something. Maybe they were just drinking partners, but I do think there's more to it than that. So back to his comment about "making a new crown prince" - whatever the truth may be, what he wants to happen does not change.

Am I tripping or the subtitles for past few episodes were weird? I'm a native Japanese speaker so it's kinda throw me off guard to see subs saying different things 😅

It's because they are Netflix subs. Probably "dubtitles" even, meaning its just the english dub script in the subs

ah I see, that makes so much sense now! I know that dubs doesn't necessarily be a translation because of duration when speaking and also choosing words that sounds more natural in dubbed language. It's just my brain can't follow if they use dubtitles as subs when I hear and read completely different things 😂
