Puck said to Subaru : You are truly slothful" He meant for letting Emilia die, rem and getting himself killed Subaru is slothful meaning he's useless, a bit of dark irony from Puck because "you are truly slothful" is Betelgeuse's favourite line. Also Subaru said that he is laughing like a man he hated to death (betelgeuse) which is ironice since he's laughing because of how useless and slothful he is

Also Subaru was brutally honest with Rem because he wanted to make sure that he's not fooling her into helping him while she thinks that he can reciprocate her love for him, so no if Rem was not such a kind and beautiful soul she could have just rejected to help him because he rejected her. So in fact Subaru took a risk of losing his single most important support just because he wanted to be honest with her. I agree that he should have been more considerate but that's just his lack of friends and social life as you pointed out and his honesty and spontaneousness can be charming (His way of talking interacted with Emilia the frist time and in the manor) but his honesty can be hurtful sometimes. Also while I find it heartbreaking for Rem (best girl for me in this season) a cruel truth is better than sweet lies.

We made it through the prologue! The internet could absolutely not handle Subaru not accepting Rem's confession when this aired. As far as writing goes, Rem deserved to win, but you can't decide who you love in the end.
