After creating the Straights vs. Curves tutorial (available on Conté Tier) I’ve had this design concept stuck in my head and I wanted to play around with it a bit more on some gestures.

These drawings were drawn digitally from the reference library of Love Life Drawing.

I did 2 minutes gestures first and then I did a second pass to highlight the straights and curves more stylistically. Super fun to do and so many places to find these appealing shapes.

If you want to know more about this technique, check out my last video all about this very topic.

Have you had a chance to play around with your straights and curves yet?

Thank you Gillian. Great bonus. I made some sketches this way. 2 minutes gestures with pencil, definitive straight and curved lines with pen.

I tried to implement this during todays figure drawings but I find it hard to do that when I draw male models - they always end looking too curvy. Is there any specific to keep in mind? Less steep curves?

Hi Kate! Yes that’s right, we can just reduce the amount of curvature we put on the lines for less rounded figures. As long as it maintains clear contrast between the straights and the curves.
