Well, I gave you a challenge and you did not disappoint!

I felt guilty about giving such a difficult reference for last month's Draw-along Challenge, but all of you rose to the challenge and smashed it out of the park.

It makes me feel so warm inside to see how your thought processes are growing and how your gestures are improving every month.

Some things I suggested to notice were, Foreshortening (tutorial coming Jan 15th on Conté Tier), Shoulder Anatomy, Leg Anatomy, Head/Neck Anatomy, Weight, Clarity and Depth.

As always, everyone who submitted came up with different ways to take this reference and it was great to see the mix of ideas, processes and drawings.

The biggest area that I think people struggled with was the shoulder girdle. Check out the link about to revisit the Shoulder Anatomy video and also the pdf attached below on using the Shoulder Shelf in gesture.

Stay tuned for the next Draw-along Challenge coming 11th January. Feedback will be given to the firs 10 submissions - but you can still submit and I will look at them but will not be able to provide feedback.

Thank you very much for feedback, very helpful as always! I've got a question. I'm doing several attempts since I'm not sure how far I should and want to push the sketch. When I asked about that I was advised to do several sketches right up to the one that feels too pushed and then step back. Like it's a method to find your better option. I'm not sure if this is the best idea to apply to gestures since as you said more attempts = mechanical poses. What do you think?

Its a tough balance! When you are practising, it's great to do what you did here for experimentation, but at the same time, you can try to get to the exaggerated level sooner. It's a bit of back and forth between the extremes as long as you are aware of your intention with each gesture.

Thanks for the feedback. always super amazing. I used a Conté á Paris 3B(new for me) . In honour of the Conté tier :)
