Today I’m painting petunias with gouache in real time, sharing my thoughts and decisions as I paint instead of adding a voiceover later. This is a longer, slower video — and not one of my most successful paintings.

I’m sharing it anyway.

I think it’s important to show the paintings that don’t quite come together, because that’s where real learning happens. If you’ve ever felt like everyone else’s art looks effortless while yours feels messy or uncertain, you’re not alone.

Settle in, paint along if you’d like, and let this be a reminder that imperfect art still has value.

Painting Petunias in Gouache (Real Time-Process over Perfection)

In this real-time gouache painting session, I’m painting a simple cluster of petunias and talking through my process as I work — no voiceover, no editing out the struggles. This isn’t a “perfect” painting, and that’s exactly why I chose to share it. Not every piece turns out the way we hope, and I believe it’s just as important to show the learning moments, the awkward stages, and the decisions we make along the way. Art isn’t about getting it right every time — it’s about showing up, experimenting, and allowing yourself to grow. If you’re an artist who’s ever felt discouraged by a painting that didn’t meet your expectations, this video is for you. 💛
