π§ββοΈ Weekend Mini Art Challenge: The Little Book of Bewitching Spells! β¨ (Patreon)
Content
During one of our live streams, a Patreon Member said she was working on making a spell book. Making a whole spellbook might be a little ambitious for a weekend Mini Challenge, but I think creating the cover of a spellbook would be perfect.
Create the cover of a creepy cute spell book. It can be ancient and mysterious, sweet and whimsical, or just a little bit spooky!
Here's what to include:
π A Magical Title: Give your spell book a name! How about Spells for the Slightly Bewildered, The Little Book of Questionable Magic, or 101 Ways to Accidentally Turn Your Spouse into a Frog?
π·οΈ Three Magical Details: Decorate your cover with at least three magical elements. Think tiny skulls, crescent moons, potion bottles, spiderwebs, mushrooms, eyeballs, or fluttering bats.
β¨ A Touch of Magic: Add glittery stars, glowing symbols, mysterious runes, or a magical border to make your book feel extra special.
π¨ Choose Your Medium: Use watercolor, gouache, acrylic markers, colored pencils, ink, or any combination of supplies you love!
π§ How This Challenge Helps Your Art Practice
Designing a spell book cover gives you practice with composition, decorative pattern, and visual storytelling. You'll experiment with arranging shapes and details, balancing positive and negative space, and using color to establish a mood. Adding lettering also encourages you to think about how words and illustrations work together in a design.
Best of all, you can make this project as simple or as elaborate as you like!
π BONUS CHALLENGE: Inside your imaginary spell book, invent the title of one ridiculous spell. Perhaps The Never-Ending Laundry Spell, Summon Snacks, or Make Monday Disappear! What would your spell do?
