Thank you for the guide, Fan. The problem I have with @Friend or foe@ is that allies a lot of the time do not expect you to jump on them and stay out of range apart from similar situations with bw or kharazim. As for blocks, the other drowback for me is lack of sustainability. With any other talent on lvl 4 you can go lane or camp and get your health to full, but with blocks it is not possible.

This is a problem that diminishes as you climb; obviously teammates who monitor their allies' (and opponents') talent picks will be more useful. Best thing you can do is just say it at the beginning of the game; that's what I do when I'm in QM or guesting with low-MMR teams. "Heads up, I can jump to you with my Q" is enough to get most people to at least *try* to pay attention, and that's really all you can expect. Beyond that, just accept that your leash is a little shorter if your allies aren't as good; that's true of most heroes.

With friend or foe I find typing helps that situation you listed a lot, just tell them at start of game you are going friend or foe and can jump to allies, they will usually play around it much more. Block does have far less sustain thats true, even with block you still have basic atk lifesteal from your passive but it will be slower.

Thank you for the new guide Fan! It's great!

@fanhots what build do you recommend for beginner Illidan's. Any other pointers for not dying every time Illidan dives? Even when CC is down I find I get focused instantly.

fanhots

Well if you have problems with teamfighting it might be good to go battered assault and just try to keep practicing teamfight until you get a better hang of it. Going in after your tank usually helps, going in after CC is down, and using evasion right after you go in also helps. Your Q and W are both mobility and should be used to dodge things whenever possible. Picking illidan into mostly physical damage will help you survive more as well, he is not great into magic dmg.

Recently, a patch has made Immolation work with Spell Lifesteal at level 4, so this is now a viable(and strong) build. In this build I would also take Marked for Death at level 16 for spell damage synergy. Rest of talents are situational as explained in the guide.

I sought out this guide because I play a lot of Tyrande and I’ve encountered quite a few Illidan players that I am completely useless at defending myself against. With his endless evade, I can’t get CDR on my heals. I can’t seem to stun him because he’s difficult to predict. What might be the correct move as a Tyrande being dove upon by an Illidan? Is it just to run away? lol… 😅

fanhots

Well running to your team is usually the best option if you are tyrande vs illidan as there isnt that much you can do in the 1v1. The team should be able to peel him off or deal with him if you are close enough. If the option to run to your team isn't there, then you are probably out of position in the first place and what you should focus on is the positioning beforehand that let that situation happen. In the pure 1v1, landing stun is very good but very difficult, usually you have to watch for illidan q and stun on the other side of your model as he Q's for the best chance to land it. Illidan does not get infinite evasion in a 1v1, so paying attention to his evasion is very important. Do not autoattack him at all when you see it being used(and spend all the time running towards team or fort) and as soon as it drops, start stutter step autoattacking again towards your team so you can get the heal CDR.

What are some of the best solo laner options to deal with an aba + illidan combo, esp on maps like ToD? I find that this comp becomes unstoppable in solo q ranked especially when I'm a late solo laner pick and my team has not drafted to counter it. I've tried options like Malth just to see how the % dmg works against it but it seems like Malth just gets out traded. Leo, Sonya, Artanis feel ok in lane but seem lackluster at shutting it down in teamfights. Would something like a Xul work well here?

fanhots

Xul sounds like one of the better options yeah. You basically want CC to shut it down in a teamfight but also high survivability to not die in a solo lane in a 1v2, while also having good waveclear so you can still soak. Xul, Leap Sonya, Dehaka or Blaze if you can hit your skillshots should all be good
