I was honestly so impressed with how bold this finale was. I really loved how epic it all felt for the midpoint of a tv show. I wasn't sure about this season but the last few episodes really solidified this season as a worthy watch. Enjoy ;)

I cried when i seen the past lives be destroyed 😭

I think the biggest downside to the past lives being destroyed is the fact it makes the avatar state less powerful. As Roku said, the avatar state is all the past lives focusing their energy through them. When Korra goes into the avatar state later on it just doesn’t make much sense. Also a huge reason people dislike this season is the way they portrayed the spirits. In the last airbender, the spirits are amoral. You can’t understand their motivations, and they’re not good or bad. The light and dark spirit concept destroys everything the last airbender did when creating the concept. Also the appearance of the spirits and the spirit world feels childish. It didn’t have the same powerful feeling as in the last airbender. I love legend of Korra, but I definitely feel they incorrectly portrayed the spirits.

Another reason people don't like Korra vs Last Airbender is because Season 2 turns the spirits from a soft magic system (a system with no real rules) to a hard magic system (absolute rules). Like bending is a hard magic system where there are rules like firebenders can bend fire, but they cannot bend something outside of those rules, like they cannot make grass supercharged and grow rapidly. And the spirits were a soft magic system. They could break the rules because there were no hard-set rules like that in the Last Airbender. Now with Korra, there are definite rules for spirits on what they can and cannot do. They are no longer mysterious and something beyond understanding but a magic system with rules. Like how they react to human emotion is a rule, or that they clearly have a physical body in the spirit world, or that many of them act like a person rather than a concept. This all demystifies the spirits and makes them more like a D&D monster with stats and rules. Where before they were a narrative device and more of a puzzle or riddle meant to be understood.

I just love these episodes. I know the writing isn't as strong as some other seasons, but Korra's journey here really spoke to me as a teen when I first watched it. Korra had to save the world with her own inner strength not the Avatar spirit. As a fiery troubled teen who didn't believe in herself either this was so meaningful to me. I tear up every time I watch the finale. And yes that Vaatu laugh was comically long!! Also I love seeing Tenzin and his siblings together in the spirit world. I love their little family even if it and Aang had faults. It makes it feel more real to me as my parents weren't perfect either but they did their best. Also I love Bumi and I like to think that Uncle Sokka took him under his wing as a nonbender and that's why they are so similar! I can't wait for you to get into season 3 as it's even better than this one! Sorry I've edited this so much cus I keep having things to say lol Seeing Uncle Iroh twice is incredible! And also seeing Zhao in the fog of lost souls was so crazy when I first watched it!! I love this show and your reactions!! Yours are the best I've watched so far!!

Korra has grown a lot and you’ll really start to see that growth demonstrated soon. The show actually did a good job showing why Korra and Mako don’t work. They’re too similar. Even from the first episode, every discussion turned into an argument. Mako didn’t know how to be supportive in a way Korra felt supported, and she didn’t know how to communicate. They’re both firebenders and headstrong. They’re better off as friends.

yes i’m in team camp this is bold and beautiful. my critiques of this season are the pacing (first half dragged, second half was A LOT), and just a general dislike of unalaq haha

I love all of Korra I know season 2 gets a lot of hate about pacing and story of spirits but its a separate show from Last Airbender and I love giving more defining to spirits instead of them being a mystery. Also since they were never confirmed a 2nd season from start so they had to make each season a complete wrap up....but when they approved 3 and 4 at once they got to put full thought and story building across last two seasons and im excited for you to see how it goes

fun fact, that spirit mushroom at around 29:45 is voiced by Azula's actress haha
