This film about a successful failure had far more heart then I could have hoped for. Brought me to the edge of my seat, brought me to tears and had me cheering. Loved it! Enjoy :)

Great reaction! I think you would also enjoy "From the Earth to the Moon". it was an HBO miniseries, looking at different aspects of the Gemini & Apollo missions -- including Apollo 1.

New member here, I'm so glad you enjoyed this! And I can promise you that even when you know exactly what's going to happen, you feel the same feelings throughout, but especially in the end. I love that you noted that even though it was devastating for Ken to be bumped from the mission, him being left on Earth saved his friends' lives.

American here, and that was so nice what you said! I'm so glad you feel that way, sometimes I wonder about how people from other countries view these kinds of movies. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Tom Hanks actually helped produce a mini series that HBO put out not too long after this movie called "From the Earth to the Moon" and it is absolutely fantastic! Really goes into detail about the whole Apollo program and how it all worked. It really feels like just an extention of this movie. I highly recommend for anyone who wants to know anything about the space program. On a personal note, my grandpa's company in Cedar Rapids did the radio communications for the Apollo program. His job was in government contracts, and our family doesn't know exactly what he did on the program, as it was all government top secret. So I guess I have a soft spot for the program.

I'm glad you didn't notice in the beginning that it was based on the book by Jim Lovell so you really had no idea they survived. :) The real Jim Lovell said the movie was incredibly accurate except for the infightng on board. He said there was none of that, they worked together beautifully to get home. But he said that was it. The rest was spot on.
