Enjoy watching along with me the full length reaction!

You're right about the length of book-to-film adaptations. There is so much content in a book compared to a directly written screenplay.

So glad you decided to carry on with this franchise. These movies get better each time. My personal favourite is up next by the way.

The films get steadily more mature and serious in their content with each year - kind of mirroring the growth and growing maturity of the kids.

I definitely echo your sentiment and love how well Harry, Ron and Hermione play off each other and work as a team. It’s just the best. On another note- I LOVE personality tests and learning more about people through them. Thanks for sharing! Mine are: Hufflepuff ENFJ Type 9, Wing 1 I’ll have to look into the Big 5 test, I haven’t heard of that one!

Hello Oscar, thanks for having me. I really like your reactions, even the short versions on YouTube got me hooked and now I‘m here … although I don‘t like marshmellows to be honest. But I can totally live with being called one. :-) Here are some additions to the story, the background and the lore that the films couldn‘t explain: 1. The car‘s odd behavior: As we learn later on, modern technology goes haywire when coming into close contact with magic. Especially the Hogwarts grounds are full of powerful magic. This is why there‘s little to no technology in the wizarding world. 2. The secret: There is the so-called „International statute of secrecy“, a world-wide wizard law that banishes any disclosure of magic to the Muggle world. This law is from the medieval era when witches and wizards were caught and burned to death. This is why Ron‘s and Harry‘s car trip had such serious repercussions. The ministry of magic was forced to intervene and delete the witnesses‘ memories by use of the Obliviate charm. There is a special department in the ministry for such incidents, their members are called „obliviators“. 3. Tom Riddle‘s diary: As will be divulged later, Mr. Malfoy‘s plan was getting rid of Dumbledore but he didn‘t know the full extent of the book. More on that will be disclosed towards the end of the movie franchise so I won‘t spoiler any details here. Just know that Mr. Malfoy unknowingly did a great mistake by using the diary for his nefarious scheme. 4. Hagrid‘s arrest w/o proof: Cornelius Fudge, the minister of magic, is a true politician. He is very opportunistic and his greatest interest lies in keeping the wizarding world calm, quiet and orderly. Disruptions to this order must be dealt with at all costs in his opinion and he is absolutely willing to send an innocent person to prison for „the greater good“ or just for the purpose of showing to the public that the ministry is acting swiftly, he absolutely wants to look good in the wizards‘ eyes. 5. Hagrid and magic: As Hagrid was expelled 50 years ago he must not use magic. His wand was taken from him and destroyed. Hagrid can still do some magic by using his magical pink umbrella (remember the 1st movie?) but he must do it in secret because he‘s not allowed to. Hagrid’s social status is rather low in the wizarding world because of his breeding. Dumbledore offered him the job as game keeper in Hogwarts after becoming headmaster.

its because the dark alleyway is the more aggresive option

there is a theory that Dumbledore only hired Lockhart to encourage Harry to not let fame get to his head by showing him an example of someone that has. Also because he knows defense against the dark arts is cursed.

Although based on the second shortest book, this is the longest film. Order of the Phoenix, which is based on the longest book, is the second shortest of the movies. Foreign language translations had to change Tom Marvolo Riddle's name, so that an appropriate anagram could be formed. In Icelandic (my language) his name is "Trevor Délgome" which makes up "Ég er Voldemort". Before Christian Coulson was cast as Tom Riddle, Eddie Redmayne, who later played Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts films, auditioned for the role. Hugh Grant was originally cast as Lockhart but was forced to withdraw at the last minute because of scheduling conflicts. Jason Isaacs also originally auditioned for Lockhart. Tom Felton improvised Draco's "I didn't know you could read" to Harry disguised as Goyle because he forgot his line. Lucius' and Harry's exchange just before Lucius leaves Dumbledore's office was completely improvised by the actors on the spot. Jason Isaacs said "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day" and Daniel Radcliffe immediately replied "Don't worry, I will be". In the book it's revealed that Filch is actually a Squib, which is a non-magical person who is born with at least one magical parent (kind of the opposite of Muggles). Hermione and Ron's awkward non-hug was the result of Emma Watson being embarassed to hug both Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint in front of everyone, with her hugging Daniel during filming having to be frozen for a few seconds to get the desired effect due to her breaking the hug too quickly. This also unintentionally foreshadowed their feelings for each other. It's almost universally agreed upon that the films did Ron dirty. One of the most notable ways was how most of his best lines were given to Hermione. One notable example of this is when Hermione is the one to explain what "Mudblood" means instead of Ron. In the book, Ron is also the one who points out how ridiculous the whole idea of wizarding blood supremacy is (instead of Hagrid). A sweet behind the scenes story is that during production, Emma Watson frequently brought her pet hamster Millie on set but, unfortunately, Millie passed away shortly after filming began. The set department created a specially-made hamster coffin for her.

The reason harry was not trustworthy towards dumbldore is because he is a 12 year old that has been raised vile adults so from his perspective its hard to trust them also because his friends said it was bad. of course it was a mistake not to tell dumbledore.

Since I know you have finished, I do hope you eventually watched those deleted scenes with Harry/Petunia. It still annoys me that it was not in the movie, it does not take away from the aunt in the earlier episodes. As we (now age 32), grew up with these movies its very much learning that even someone we hate has their own demons and we should endeavour to be better than that and not become the thing we hate ourselves. A view point at 11 we don't understand, but certainly one we do around age 17 (which Harry was during part 1).

Youʻre right, that music from the Quidditch match did sound like Attack of the Clones. The music for the first two movies was written by John Williams, the same composer as the Star Wars franchise. :)
