Gigantic moves with character arcs this week! I felt so optimistic throughout the first couple episodes following the Aang-gang trying to find Appa, only for the end of the season to leave me feeling hopeless and uncertain. Enjoy :)

They did a really great job of showing Zuko's inner conflict. He is just a 16 yo guy who has been trying for the last 3 years to return home and receive his father's love. Now he has such an opportunity, you can see that he himself is unsure of what he did, but he needs to try to get what he wanted for so long. Azula's "you were never even a player" always gives me chills. By the way, she hit Aang while he was in the Avatar state, so it's lucky that Katara didn't use that water from the spirit oasis before. Nice background update 🙂

Yay can't wait to watch this. Been waiting for the earth king episode, just for the display of earth bending from Toph and Aang while the bust into the palace

This was the best. Love your reactions. I was soooo anxious while you got so hyped about Aang being in the Avatar state lololol

Im so so incredibly glad you're enjoying this show. Love your reactions so much🎉 There's nothing more painful than watching a victim like Zuko fall for narcissistic lies and manipulation over and over again especially when you understand exactly why he's thinking the way he is. There's no other show that has such well developed and well examined characters like ATLA. The writers did such an incredible job with this show

I've seen the whole series multiple times, and it still boggles my mind how there are so many amazing moments, both quiet and bombastic, in this show. Everything about it is just amazing. One of the greatest shows (NOT animated, greatest full stop) of all time.

It's important in the context of Zuko's character that he is roughly 16-17 years old at this point, and he had spent all of his teenage years dreaming about being welcomed back home. In his mind, he was the one who was wrong and only his family could restore his honor. The poor boy was presented with getting what he always wanted at the cost of his own heart & soul.

I'm super late, and I'm not sure if this is addressed in a following episode, but the 'letting go' of 'earthly attachments' is about control. They've done very well explaining the other chakras in a fairly simple way in this - technically - kid's show, but I guess the crown chakra is difficult to convey properly, it's deeply spiritual stuff. To explain the concept, holding onto something means we're trying to control it, in essence. Letting go doesn't mean we have to lose everything or not have anything good or fun in our lives. But if we let go of attachment we loosen our grip on it and we won't be dependent on 'having' anything, and the thing or person we were holding onto will be independent from us as well; we would be centered, grounded no matter what happens, no matter what we gain or lose, we just experience life, we flow and nothing can disturb our balance within. It would have been absolutely wild if Aang got it the first time haha, and in real life it's very rare for any human being to get there (not that everyone desires to of course). And of course they would make Aang work through these chakras so quickly, for the kind of show this is and its limited importance to the story. But still super cool how they included all this; also the part of Zuko getting sick and going through that deep inner shift after making 'the choice', that was amazing and there's such truth to it! Although he probably thought he was done after just making one big choice, hehe, but life tests us numerous times at the least, and as you can see Zuko made the old choice again, coming from a place of pain, and shame, which is also wonderfully addressed in later episodes. Long story short... great show :)
