(no copy required) What a fantastic start to this sequel series!! I really like Korra as a character and how all of her struggles and strengths are opposite to Aang's. I'm so excited to see what themes and lessons arise over the next season. Enjoy :)

Thank you! It's like you knew I was feeling a little sad and bored and wanted one more nice thing to do before bed. Your chummy attitude is the perfect closer to my Monday :)

Kate

Yes, so excited for Korra reaction. The perfect way to start my Tuesday 😀 Amon is my favorite villain from the whole Avatar series

Raquelly Reacts

Awesome yay! So excited for you to start Korra I love it.

Leev

its always so satisfying when you watch something because you catch and remember all the details and give such thoughtful input! i can't wait for the next 4 episodes. Ur avatar reactions are getting me through some tough times. keep em comin! <3

Raquelly Reacts

Yeah you’re right, Korra is the complete opposite of Aang. The journey is completely different too. Aang was in a time where people wanted the Avatar but he didn’t want to be the avatar. She’s in time where people don’t want the avatar but she’s wants to actually take on that roll. He had 1 element down and 3 he had to learn. She has 3 down and 1 to learn. He traveled the world Since long before he even knew he was the avatar. She’s been isolated her whole life. There’s much more comparisons of how polar opposite there journeys are to make but you’ll see them unfold as you go along. Yeah Aang named one of his kids after Bumi and Katara named their daughter Kya after her mother. She’s just jacked and hella strong, not just an avatar thing lol They named Mako after the first voice actor of uncle Iroh who passed away For you to catch that her entire self worth and value is based on being the avatar and her bending this early on while most people don’t catch that till later on is very perceptive and spot on, well done! She’s been training since the age of 4 and it’s all she knows, taking that away from her would be devastating and soul crushing for her. The thing with Tenzin is since Aang is now gone, him and his entire family are the only air-benders, he feels the responsibility Aang also had in keeping his entire culture alive. That’s why he’s very tied down to his beliefs, it’s to keep and preserve all the air nation cultures and traditions, all that Aang taught him. I also like to think he thinks of it as keeping Aangs spirit alive and that it would make Aang very proud keeping all the customs and traditions going.

Omg I’ve been counting the day till you got to Korra! Can’t wait for you to have this journey!

ATLA is much more character based while Korra is much more idea driven. The lines between good/evil are much more blurred, Korra starts more powerful than Aang so rather than getting character growth through bending she must grow in other ways, mostly by questioning/getting past her own closed minded beliefs and arrogance as we have already seen.

Alex Vega

Try to go into it with an open mind. A lot of reactors for whatever reason try to compare Korra to Aang when they are two completely different Avatars in two completely different time periods with different personalities. I personally think you’ll love the show but for completely different reasons than you liked ATLA

KaijinGarou

As long as you don't hope for it to be as good, you're in the right mindset and you'll have fun. Some seasons are decent.

KaijinGarou

"What happened to Zuko's mom?" "We don't talk about that here, kiddo. Buy the *** comic"

KaijinGarou

They named one after Bumi and one after Katara's mom, Kya. Most people don't catch that although I don't blame you because I think they only say her name once in ATLA. You'd have to be looking at ATLA trivia to remember. BTW, Katara was the third name they gave her. She was going to be Kya, then Kana and then they came up with Katara and gave those to her mother and grandma.

KaijinGarou

Korra doesn't expect to pay for food not because she is the Avatar but because she was raised in the Southern Water Tribe, a small self-sufficient village where they hunt and share their own food. Sokka and Katara did know about money, though, but they were more well-traveled than her.

KaijinGarou

Yeah I didn't get the shop owners starting to guess she's the Avatar after three elements either like two isn't already a dead giveaway and the only possible explanation 🤣

KaijinGarou

Being the Avatar only means you can bend all four elements and have access to the Avatar state and Avatars passed. Complexion has nothing to do with it 😅. Same goes for bending. The Avatar's bending isn't better than anyone's by default unless they're in the Avatar state. In fact, it's usually worse than that of masters. Remember Aang couldn't metalbend or bloodbend, opposite to Toph and Katara.

KaijinGarou

I have no problem with Korra being the opposite to Aang, Oscar, I like that too. My problems come with the writing of the show and the characters overall and so does for many who don't love it. You're assuming too much from just ep 1 😅

TheFrenchieReact

I've never watched Korra before today and… it is different, but quite enjoyable. I'll keep watching it along with you :D

Wow, you nailed the classic description of Aang and Korra that I’ve seen in countless comments sections on reaction videos! Aang was a pacifist who had to end a war. Korra is a warrior who has to maintain peace. And yeah, she was the character I was referring to when I said some other reactors have struggled with, but that I had a feeling you’d be empathetic toward! Korra’s a child prodigy, the chosen one, raised in a sheltered environment surrounded by people who provided everything for her. She hasn’t been properly socialized and has no experience with how the real world works. On top of all that, she’s a seventeen-year-old girl with all of the hormones and attitude that comes with that.

Jenny D

As for the advancements, it’s pretty jarring initially, but when you stop to think about it, it actually makes sense. The technology in ATLA was for the most part comparable to the mid-1800’s in our world, and LOK is pretty clearly set in the 1920’s. It’s been almost 70 years since the end of the last show. Plus with Toph inventing metal bending and teaching it to other people, it’s no wonder technology was able to advance the way it did post-war.

Jenny D

The names of Katara and Aang’s kids are Bumi, Kya, and Tenzin. Bumi obviously for King Bumi, and Kya was Katara’s mother’s name (also the original name for Katara’s character). Tenzin doesn’t seem like a significant name within the show at first, until you learn that the creators named him for the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.

Fun fact - Hiroshi Sato (the rich guy who helped Mako) is voiced by Daniel Dae Kim (Ozai from the Netflix show), and the character Asami (Hiroshi's daughter) is voiced by Seychelle Gabriel who played Yue in the movie that does not exist

I haven't even gotten more than 2 mins into this and thank you so much for posting your own copy... no shade about when you don't, I know you would show us all the time if it wasn't for playing it safe and smart with certain shows, but ty so much for doing this show this way, at least for the time being :)

Geothro

So happy you’re starting Korra. I was worried I was going to have to wait awhile lol

Henri

Another way Korra is similar to Anakin is that they are both at their core, good people, despite all their flaws. Anakin's first instinct is to help Qui-Gon and Padme in the Phantom Menace. During her first day in the city, Korra gives food to a homeless guy and immediately stands up to the gang members when they start threatening people. No matter how naive or arrogant she is, her base instincts are good.

Henri

Also there are some great comics about the years following the original show.

DudeTrue

I feel like you said "shivers" a lot today. Enjoying the show so far? hahahaha

Starbafox

I highly recommend the Netflix show The Dragon Prince, it has one of the creators/writers of ATLA. It is its own show, no connection. It does have the VA for Sokka in it, you'll notice right away. The story is really good and the universe is just as good!

K

Only thing I’m going to say is stick with it, because Season 3 is up there with at least Season 2 of ATLA. The writing of the show as a whole suffers a little from the behind the scenes stuff Nickelodeon did to the team, particularly never letting them be clear on how long they have to tell their story. ATLA got three seasons in one go, so the story is told differently.

I just love The Legend of Korra. Yes it's got some issues but I just love Korra's journey. I can relate to her story a lot and this came out when I was a teen so it's very special to me. I can't wait to go through these reactions!! ❤️

Katelyn Halt

Also if you didn't know we will be getting more animated Avatar universe content! The original creators founded Avatar studios and we will be getting multiple movies and a Earth Avatar after Korra series!! Starting with an adult Aang movie in October 2025!!!!!!!!!!

Victoria

I actually really love how they incorporated things which were more rare in AtLA (lighting, metal bending, chi blocking, etc) In the comics we learn Toph set up a school where she taught metal bending. Ty Lee joined the Kyoshi Warriors and taught them how to chi block. The previous gang shared what knowledge they could so it makes sense to me we see the fruit of their labors, especially in Republic City.

Akito Senpai

Yeah! Let's goooooo! I love Legend of Korra as much as Legend of Aang. It has some low parts, but same as last Airbender. I'm glad to join you into this journey!

Lily

I was never a huge fan of korra but at this point Oscar, I’d watch you reacting to paint dry. I think this is making me a fan

Midnight Crypt Worx

Would you consider starting the show Buffy The Vampire Slayer? I think you would love it and it would bring a lot more people to your stuff <33

I know I am very late to this party, but I just finished watching your Avatar reactions which I absolutley loved. I am SO glad you did not let the many Korra haters dissuade you from watching this fantastic extension of the the Avatar Universe. I have been a huge Atla and LoK fan since they aired. Yes, Legend of Korra has its issues with pacing and character development; mainly due to issues with Nickelodeon putting network constraints on the writers. However, what I love about your reactions is your open mindedness and critical analysis. In many instances, you have opposite reactions to the general public. With the bloodbending episode of Atla you didn't focus as much on the act of bloodbending itself, but on the ethical arguments of when civilians of a violent nation are no longer innocent. You look for deeper meanings, themes, and foreshadowing. Your reviews are incredibly thoughtful and pick up on details many viewers do not notice their first time through. In this group of reactions, it especially warmed my heart when you said that Korra' naviety and aggressiveness made you want to protect her and hope that she was okay. A lot of people who watched the show were turned off of her as a character for those very traits. Traits that made Toph so popular (stubborn, strong, skilled badass fighter) made people say Korra was the worst Avatar ever. So many people missed the beauty of the story, the character growth, and all the different ways we get to see the Atla universe expand and deepen. I cannot wait to watch you react to the rest of Legend of Korra. The care, thought, and effort you put into your reactions are unmatched! Stay Cozy!

I dont get why people should be upset that Korra is so different fron Aang. like why would you want them to be the same? we already have Aang, isnt it better to see someone different, who can give a new and different perspective on the same world as it too changes and grows? if people just want to see more of the old, then they can rewatch the old show. a new show should be different, or else why bother making a new show at all, at that point youd just make more seasons of the old show.
