It’s time for a thick, juicy batch of Spectacular Spider-Man, and man… these did not disappoint. So many familiar faces already, and I’m absolutely loving it.

Drop your thoughts below and enjoy the slightly longer ride than usual!

The guy who created this show also created Gargoyles. Just some food for thought.

Little bit for each episode, so put on your reading glasses. 😂: The title of each episode is typically the main theme and/or lesson of each episode, typically learned either from the villain or a supporting character. I think Shocker’s bit of advice to Spidey was the most obvious. Electro’s name is Max Dillon and he’s about as cookie cutter of a villain in both origin and motive as you can get, both in the comics and in this show, though I do feel bad for him here with how his normal life was effectively cut completely short. Liz Allen was Peter’s second ever love interest on the comics, after Betty Brant, who was the first, with Gwen in fourth and MJ in fifth. Good on you for catching Electro supercharging Connors’s lizard DNA concoction. Kurt had been injecting himself with it before, but it had been effectively useless until Electro altered it. I love how this show does the relationship between Peter and Eddie. Eddie being like a sort of big brother to Peter is so much better than just some POS rival journalist imo, and it makes the buildup so much better. Ngl, I’m honestly surprised that Spectacular did a Lizard episode as early as episode three, but it did not disappoint. I’m not sure if I prefer a totally mindless Lizard or the me with a more robust alternate personality, but I quite enjoyed it either way. I just wish we had gotten more seasons to get a regrettable return at some point. Also, this Lizard is indeed green, as we see in the train car, but he appears black since we only ever see him in the night. Personally I’m just happy to see a Lizard in a lab coat. In the comics and most iterations, Shocker goes by the name Herman Schultz, a petty thief and his own unique character. Making Montana of The Enforcers also be the Shocker was a creative choice made by the writers of this show, and one that I’m not that upset about just for this depiction alone. Shocker utilizes shockwaves and vibrations, with his suit being a sort of advanced quilted padding to absorb the shocks, hence the stitched pattern. JJJ is a highlight character of this series, so funny’s I love how overly animated he is compared to everyone else. 😂 Sandman’s transformation seemed extremely painful and was some serious body horror. I can’t even imagine what his anatomy must be like now. Scorpion’s name is Mac Gargan, though he was planned for season 3. And yes, there’s a Sandman, a Hydro-Man, and a Molten Man. Hydro-Man was planned for the season 3 cut as well. Rhino in the comics and most media is traditionally known as Aleksei Sytsevich, a Russian mob boss who willingly went through the permanent Rhino suit fusion in order to gain greater power. Alexander O’Hirn is the Irish-American equivalent of the character introduced in the original Ultimate Spider-Man comics, which I believe were running at this time, so this was the version of Rhino that was used. He’s essentially the same, just not Russian and not already starting from a position of power. Another creative liberty taken here was combining the character of Tombstone with the alias of the Big Man, who was his own character in the comics and mainly served as a sort of employer of The Enforcers. Tombstone was accidentally exposed to a certain experimental Alchemax chemical as a child, turning him albino but also making his skin impenetrable and therefore Tombstone himself impervious to any physical damage. His deathly appearance, combined with his lethal experience as a hitman, his teeth (which he has filed down into fangs), and his voice (Tombstone damaged his own vocal cords in order to give himself a low, gravely whisper), earns him the name Tombstone. This is probably my favorite version of Green Goblin next to Willam Defoe’s portrayal. The voice, the mannerisms, the gadgets, it’s all perfect, and I love how he’s the only villain so far who is not only witty, but immediately counters Spidey’s banter. Green Goblin is typically Norman Osborn, yes, but there are a decent few portrayals where it’s Harry. Hobgoblin is actually a man named Roderick Kingsley.

Greg Weisman is a fantastic storyteller who excels at worldbuilding and doesn't dumb down his narrative. Unfortunately, he sometimes lets story arcs run longer than they need to and at times his exposition comes off as forced and unnatural. But all things considered, he's an underappreciated treasure.

42:31 Yeah a surprise, alright 🤣🤣

Anriku

Thats a lot to take in but I tried my best. 😭 I thought Shocker had a different name in the past. Good to know it was changed here. I also enjoy Eddi abd Peter in this compared to the movie.

Anriku

And... SpongeBob.;)

Anriku

I see. Crazy how time flies.

Anriku

What other shows has he written?

Luke8694

The first episode did a great job of introducing so many villains and now we get the payoff, seeing them turn worse. I love their individual motivations as well; Electro wants a cure, Shocker had a job to do, Sandman wants a “big score”, Rhino wants to take down Spider-Man, and Green Goblin is a psycho. I also love JJ in this show, he’s hilarious but brave when confronted by Rhino.

Anriku

JJ is so good man. He's so over animated and I love it.

Arkham Asylum 22

And ghostfreak and vilxgax in the ben 10 franchise

JD Dumas

Young Justice is the only other thing I know he developed, but he's written episodes for a bunch of shows you might know. W.I.T.C.H,. Ben 10 OG, Transformers Prime, Kim Possible, TMNT 2012.

Anriku

Oh wow. So he's been around the industry. Thats cool.
