It’s time to bring a little Gold to the Silver Age! This episode was a blast. I loved the themes, seeing Batman in his old costume was awesome, and getting a look into the JSA’s past was really cool!

Drop your thoughts below and enjoy the ride!

Detective Chimp (Bobo T. Chimpanzee) is indeed a real character! He was a circus animal who had a detective performance before drinking from the Fountain of Youth, which gave him genius human level intellect. He can speak all languages and is one of the world’s best detectives. He is often part of the Justice League Dark. I’ll give you a brief rundown of the powers and abilities of the specific few JSA members shown: - Hourman (Rex Tyler) was a chemist who discovered the chemical Miraclo, which greatly enhances his strength, durability, and all other physical feats, on par with early Superman. However, Miraclo’s effect last only for exactly ONE HOUR, hence the name “Hourman”. That hourglass on his neck is a normal hourglass, simply to let him know how much time he has left. - Wildcat (Theodore “Ted” Grant), as you know, was a world class heavyweight boxer who became a hero and JSA member after being framed for a murder. He merely mortal, but he’s one of the best bruisers and boxers there ever was. - Black Canary I (Dinah Drake) was born with the meta gene which gave her the canary cry ability. She was also an extremely gifted martial artist. She married and aided the crime fighting efforts of her Gotham City detective husband, Larry Lance. The two ended up having Black Canary II (Dinah Laurel Lance), who shared both her mother’s cry and her gift for martial arts. - Doctor Mid-Nite (Dr. Charles McNider) was a surgeon who was blinded in an bomb attack while treating a patient who was a mob witness. However, he finds that he can actually still see in complete and total darkness, so he develops special goggles that help him regain some of his sight by essentially blacking out the world around him. He uses “black out bombs” in his fighting to help blind his enemies and also typically has an owl companion named Hooty. - Hawkman (Carter Hall) is the reincarnation of the Egyptian Prince Khufu. In this life he was an archaeologist who regained his memories after discovering the blade used to kill him and Hawkgirl long ago (long story). He also discovers ancient weapon and Nth Metal, which has anti-gravity properties. He uses this to create a belt and wings that allow him to fly and fight crime. - The Flash (Jay Garrick) was a football player turned scientist who gained his enhanced speed after breathing in “hard water vapor” during a lab accident. He was one of the first members of the JSA and has made the most appearances in modern media since his debut in the 1930s. Per Degaton is up there with Vandal Savage for me. I love a good old, simple, time traveling dictatorial villain lol. He often brings things from the future to the past in order to benefit him and after the accident is essentially outside of the normal time stream. If you’re wondering what’s up with his name, that’s just his actual name, Per Degaton. “Per” is simply the Scandinavian variant of “Peter” and Degaton was simply a name that was made up to sound cool and futuristic.

Fun Fact: Hourman's Miraculo Formula was later used by the government of Santa Prisca as the basis for Bane's Venom.

Love the lore, guys! Thank you. What's with shows using Bobo as a name for monkeys? Was there a famous chimp named Bobo at some point?

JD Dumas

There was a famous Gorilla named Bobo at the Seattle Zoo during the 1950s and 60s.

KrakenKing

Yeah it kinda just stuck as a name for chimps/apes, same as with Polly for parrots.

Anriku

You know what... I knew that. XD Thanks for refreshing my memory.
