The setup for Darkseid as the next major villain was hype, man. You can feel something big coming and I can’t wait to see how he comes into play. Alfred’s what if story was a really cool touch too, and I love how they made it clear it was him writing it. Such a fun and creative way to handle it.

Yea Damien is supposed to be Talia’s son. Bruce and Selena typically have a daughter that’s Helena who is also a Hunteress when she goes up

Darkseid and the New Gods of Apokolips are extremely bad news. They are extremely powerful beings with highly advanced technology and will stop at nothing to dominate anything and everything, opposite to High Father and the New Gods of New Genesis. Kalibak is one of Darkseid two main biological sons, with the other being Orion, who Darkseid traded with High Father for High Father’s own son as a sort of peace treaty. That son was given by Darkseid to Granny Goodness and would be named Scott Free as a cruel joke and he would go on to eventually escape become Mister Miracle, while Orion was raised correctly by High Father. New Gods from Apokolips that we have actually seen or heard referenced in total include: Darkseid, Kalibak (Darkseid’s son), Steppenwolf (Darkseid’s uncle), Mantis, Lashina (Jonah Hex’s lady friend on War World), Stompa (another on War World), and Big Barda (Mister Miracle’s wife and formerly one of Granny Goodness’s Female Furies). Mister Miracle, though we’ve seen him, is originally of New Genesis. A very common misconception is that Darkseid is a Superman villain and this is because, over time, particularly after Apokolips’ heavy involvement in STAS, writers have chosen to make the two fight more and more as a sort of “super strong good guy vs super strong bad guy” sort of fantasy. In reality, Darkseid is a threat to any and all and, as originally written by the creator of the New Gods and their saga, Jack Kirby, his true foe is Orion, his former and biological son. I absolutely love Alfred story. He wants his surrogate son to be able to give up crime fighting, find love, have a family, and just be happy. Sadly, this is only a fairy tale for Bruce. I believe this Joker was intended to be something like Heath Ledger’s Joker, but he is also visually similar to John DiMaggio’s Joker from the A Death in the Family comic/animated movie. All the Easter eggs in the museum were really cool to see, I could pause and pick them all out frame by frame all day. Generally there are four Robins: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Damien Wayne. When Joker said “I’ve been blown up, dropped down smoke stacks, fed to sharks”, all three of those are actually ways that Joker was perceived dead throughout the old DCAU (I can remember each exact episode where all of those happened lol).

I see. So Darkseid is suppose to be a major threat. Not just a single heros archenemy. I hope we see a lot of those New Gods in the coming episodes. Imagine they come back to fight for Darksied? Would be nuts. Alfred is such an awesome character a great surrogate dad. Jason Todd. That's the one I was forgetting and he becomes Red Hood, iirc.

There's a punch of blink and you'll miss it cameos in this episode. In the scene where Batman and Catwoman are working together, the villains their fighting are Prof. Hugo Strange, in his Golden Age attire, and his army of Monster Men. At the end, we see Dick and Damian fighting a lot of Batman villains who were brand new at the time this came out. Prof. Pyg: A deranged plastic surgeon who turns people into his mind controlled Dollotrons. Magpie: Kleptomaniac super thief who has a rare neurological disorder that makes her unable to feel pain. Flamingo: a flamboyant cannibal villain obsessed with the color pink. King Kraken: a Scandinavian submarine pirate who is best known for one quote "Henchmen are for wimps". I don't recognize the others.

I think in the what if Damien's wife is probably the women who became Robin in those dark knight animated movies I can't remember her name though 😅
