New Age and Old Age teaming up to help Batman was fun to watch! Seeing the generations clash and work together at the same time made for a really entertaining episode. Captain Atom though... yeah... he sucks. XD

The “Batman of all Nations” is a nickname for The International Club of Heroes. They are a loosely organized confederation of vigilantes, operating worldwide, with their common trait being that most if not all its members were inspired to fight crime because of Batman, hence the nickname. Captain Atom was originally a character that DC obtained from Charleston comics, alongside Blue Beetle, The Question, etc. He is the inspiration for Dr. Manhattan in ‘Watchmen’. Batman summed up his backstory pretty well; Colonel Allen Adam (Charleston name)/ Nathaniel Adam (DC name) was a USAF officer who was framed for a crime he didn’t commit and sentenced to death under the supervision of Col. Wade Eiling (often later a savage brute villain calling himself The Colonel). Instead, Adam offered himself to be part of a military experiment with little chance of survival, though he would get a presidential pardon should he survive. Adam was to sit inside the remains of a crashed alien ship while a thermonuclear bomb was blown underneath it to test its durability. Long story short, Adam survived, but the ship’s alien metals fused to him and essentially turned him into a walking nuclear bomb. He was also blown 20 years into the future by a warp in the explosion. Because of this, the government assumed he was dead and never gave Adam a pardon. So, when he showed up 20 years in the future, they didn’t acknowledge him and instead blackmailed him into becoming a government superhero named Captain Atom. This is why Captain Atom is almost always portrayed as a military/government stooge hero, because he really has no other choice. Major Force (Sergeant Clifford Zmeck) is the archenemy of Captain Atom and his dark counterpart (as well as being a foe of Green Lantern). His origin is nearly identical to Captain Atom’s, both being candidates for Project Atom (Zmeck was sentenced for murder), save for the time travel. JSA members seen here: Wildcat, Dr. Fate, Starman, Hawkman, Dr. Mid-Nite, Hourman, Flash, Sandman, Mister Terrific (the FP on his chest stands for “Fair Play”), Green Lantern, Spectre. RIP Black Canary I.

Most versions of Captain Atom I've seen are much less dickish than this one. In the DCAU he's a consummate professional. In Young Justice, he was leader of the League for a while. The guy in the gasmask and fedora is Wesley Dodds aka the Sandman. He saw crimes before they happened in his dreams, so he could always be where he was needed in the nick of time. His signature weapon was a knockout gas gun. The guy in red is Ted Knight aka Starman. He wielded the same cosmic rod that gives Stargirl her powers. The guy with FP on his chest is Terry Sloane aka the original Mr. Terrific. He was a rich man who was given every advantage in life: money, intelligence, Olympic level athleticism. After accomplishing everything he ever wanted to do in his early 20s, Terry became depressed and suicidal. But after saving a woman from jumping off a bridge, he realized that his own problems were insignificant compared to the rest of the world, so he decided to use everything life gave him to become a superhero. As Mr. Terrific, Sloane's main goal was to stamp out juvenal delinquency, to that end he started the "Fair Play Foundation" to help at-risk kids find a better life.

Agreed, I think Captain Atom was chosen to play the role of an ass here because 1. He is absurdly powerful, so removing his powers drives the message of the episode as far as it can, and 2. He is a character who is already either typically very professional and no-nonsense, so he already often comes across like a jerk. As I’ve said before, his pretty much always siding with the government due to his employment doesn’t tend to help either, but he’s blackmailed to work for them under threat of death, so he doesn’t really have a choice. Major Force is basically what Captain Atom is without his sense of duty and work, and is really who should have been characterized like this.

Maybe I'll like him in other media. Look forward to seeing him in the future and if my opinion changes. XD

Ah, so they're not Bat themed... just a nickname it was given. Gotcha! Definitely cool to see. Maybe my opinion of Captain Atom will change if I see him in other media.
