Poison Ivy somehow gets more unhinged every time she shows up. She was already a little crazy back in Pretty Poison, but she's absolutely batshit insane here! 😂 What a wild episode from start to finish... I had a blast with this one.

Been a while since I got to leave the first comment. I know Batman has a strict no killing policy, as all heroes should, any one of those millions Ivy kidnapped could've used their money and influence to push for the death penalty. She should count herself lucky, in the real world the US Legal System has a looser definition of 'legally sane'. I really liked Maggie. I wish we got to see more of her, but I like to think Alfred kept up their relationship off camera. The man deserves to have a life outside Wayne Manor, and I'm sure Bruce agrees. On an unrelated note, a YouTuber named Darth Angelis recently released a 3 1/2-hour animated fan film adaptation of "Heir to the Empire" and apparently has plans for the rest of the Thrawn Trilogy too. Might be worth a look, maybe not as a reaction, but just for yourself.

The start of the episode already lets you know that this is going to be a more malevolent story. The soft, eerie music that gets louder and crashes as the woman tries to escape the spa is very effective in setting tone. The title card is also simple but clever; a dead tree, rather mundane, but if you look closely, it’s actually in the shape of a human hand. Ivy’s escape from Stonegate Penitentiary is kinda just given the same handwavey explanation that the Joker is usually given. Unless you actually see how someone escapes prison, you kinda just have to assume that they eventually just figured a way out, somehow. Sadly, this is Maggie Page’s only appearance in the series. She was proposed as a love interest for Alfred, but I think the writers thought twice about using her. We can assume that she and Alfred continue to have their relationship off-screen, though. Production fact: episode director, Kevin Altieri, both originally thought this episode to be rather mundane, reworking the whole thing and adding the giant tree last minute, and also was disappointed with the animation company for making Ivy “mannish and long-limbed” lol. Daphne Demeter is a pretty obvious alias for Ivy, stupidly so. The Demeter part is obvious, Greek goddess of grain and the harvest, but Daphne is a little more deep cut. In Greek mythology, Daphne was a Naiad nymph who the god Apollo was absolutely obsessed with. In order to finally escape him, she sacrificed her form, opting to be turned into a Laurel tree. Batman makes a vague Greek mythology reference in the episode, saying he knows what inspired her plan. I think my favorite part of this episode is just the sheer distress and emotion Bruce shows when he discovers what the Eternal Youth enzyme does to human cells. The literal second he discovers it, he breaks into a full sprint, moving as fast as he can to the top of the mansion, screaming for Alfred non-stop (Kevin Conroy was really putting emphasis into it). This is one of the very few times we ever see Bruce in the suit in Wayne Manor itself and it’s because he’s so distraught about his second father possibly being in mortal peril. I love it.

Damn. Thats a shame we dont see more of Maggie.. I'll give his channel a look. Appreciate the info.

Agreed. I enjoyed the panic that overcame him once he learned the truth. It really hit home.
