I can't help but wonder if this episode is another one the fandom tends to overlook, much like The Forgotten. Funny enough, I genuinely enjoyed both. They each brought something unique to the table, and I had a great time with them.

Drop your thoughts below, and enjoy the ride!

You forgot that Dick Grayson is already Robin in this universe, he's just at college right now. Behold Roland Dagget, arguably the most detestable man in the entire DCAU. A man so corrupt and vile that if this was a silent movie there would be a cart that reads (Please take a moment to boo and hiss at the villain) every time he comes on screen. And to answer your question, Dagget is voiced by the beloved actor Ed Asner, who has been in a lot of things, but you probably best know him as the old man from the movie Up.

Anriku

Wait. When did they say that about Dick? I was just joking and stating it in general tbh but I don't remember mention of him. Oh! Ed Asner! Legend. The role I was thinking was Ed Wuncler from The Boondocks. Lol.

JD Dumas

They haven't mentioned yet in the show that that's where Dick is, but I believe someone in the comments mentioned that in previous episode. Unless I'm misremembering, in which case I apologize. Although, I genuinely did think you forgot that he was in a previous episode already.

Anriku

Which episode was he in? I can't remember when they said it. I definitely can't remember all the comments. 😅

It is not a Spoiler, So here is the thing Bruce's Dad, Thomas Wayne is a well known Doctor, one of the most brilliant and gifted surgeons in the world. Despite being a multi-billionaire who inherited Wayne Enterprises, Thomas chose to spend his days in the operating room. Because of his extreme wealth, he frequently worked at Gotham General completely for free, specifically taking on impoverished patients who could not afford healthcare. And here is where She comes in, He and his medical school classmate, Dr. Leslie Thompkins, established free community clinics in Gotham’s poorest, most crime-ridden neighborhoods (such as Park Row). Also her and Martha share past, Martha Wayne (originally Martha Kane) came from a wealthy family but dedicated her life to helping Gotham’s poorest citizens. She became a primary advocate and fundraiser for the free medical clinic that Leslie founded in Gotham's slums. Leslie and Martha worked side-by-side to bring medical aid, funding, and social reform to dangerous neighborhoods like Park Row. it was at Leslie's Clinic where Bruce's parents met, Martha fell in love with Thomas, when he stood in for Laslie, She got wounded by gunshot, so while she was recovering Thomas and Martha were running the clinic.

“Crime Alley” is always the name associated with wherever the Wayne’s are slain. Sometimes it’s a literal alley, sometimes it’s the general area of Park Row, like in this episode. Roland Dagget (voiced by the legendary Ed Asner) is a truly despicable human being. People like Rupert Thorne are openly criminals, they don’t hide their nature, while other business leaders and politicians like Ferris Boyle are evil but often incompetent and small-scale in their overall acts. Dagget is essentially a mobster playing business mogul, doing anything and everything to get what he wants, no matter who gets hurt, a truly horrible man. The only people who know that Bruce is Batman at this point are Alfred, Dick, and Leslie. (My guy forgot about Dick. 😭) Dr. Leslie Thompkins was a very old friend of the Waynes and a local philanthropist; a Gotham physician who operates a free clinic in Park Row/Crime Alley, hence her strong presence there and refusal to leave. She is somewhat of a maternal figure for Bruce, given her having been there for him as a child through adulthood and has often provided his with medical aid if needed. This episode is indeed one of the less popular or overlooked episodes for many, but I believe it’s one of the most important. We see Bruce going about saving those far less fortunate than him and most, those in the same place that took his parents from him, and yet it just seems like it’s never enough; there’s always something else to fix. I find it to be an excellent partner of ‘The Forgotten’ (and possibly ‘The Underdwellers’, to a far lesser extent). Bruce keeping an appointment with Dr. Thompkins every year at the same time of his parents’ murder is a very grounding thing for a man who seems like he’s anything but, something untouchable. When Bruce places the roses on the spot where his parents once laid dead and kneels, Leslie stoops down and hugs him like she’s still embracing that scared, mourning little boy in that same place so many years ago. I just find that scene very powerful.

Dick appeared in the third episode, ‘Christmas with the Joker’, as he was home on Christmas break (I believe this was stated). We don’t see him for a while in-universe as the show covers a lot in this year of 1993, but he’ll be back soon (I wonder what degree he’s trying to achieve).

Anriku

Ty. I remember now. Sorry guys. I can't remember EVERYTHING considering how much I watch and I also watch things off camera.😅I did forget that he appeared earlier. I wasn't saying I didn't forget in my previous reply.. I was trying to convey that I was just making a general reference/joking comment about the whole adopting a kid to be a side kick since that's what he does. XD

Anriku

Good people, those Waynes are.

KrakenKing

It’s all good bro we weren’t implying anything that deep. ✌🏻😭

Anriku

You're right. I just get this way sometimes where I feel the need to over explain. 🤣 my bad.

Anriku

Facts. This is easily in my top 10-20 episodes of this show so far. The scene at the end hits hard knowing everything we know about Batman.
