What a phenomenal pair of episodes for Clayface’s introduction!

From the storytelling to the overall presentation, these episodes were absolutely fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment, and this was such a great way to introduce one of Batman’s most iconic villains.

Now I have to wonder… will we be seeing more of Clayface in the future? 👀

Drop your thoughts in the comments below, and as always, enjoy the ride!

We will see more clay face. Let’s just say I hope you are OK with seeing a child be eaten.

- This Clayface was a pretty major reinvention on part of the writers, scrapping the original convoluted comic lore that had had four Clayfaces up to that point and instead combining the original Golden Age Basil Karlo, an actor, with the Silver Age Matt Hagen, a treasure hunter who found an undersea substance which turned him into muck. - The writers have gone on record saying that they absolutely wrote Hagen and his stand-in, Teddy Lupus, to be in a relationship (in all but outright saying it due to censorship). While this is pretty obvious when watching, it’s pretty crazy for writers of the time to have openly written a gay couple that weren’t the butt of a joke, and honestly some pretty neat representation. - We first saw the Batwing in the episode ‘The Forgotten’. Alfred piloted it in order to find Bruce, with much humor lol. - Overall, this is one of BTAS’ best stories. Themes of addiction, inadequacy, love and loss, and definitely more of a tragedy than a comedy, as the masks go. - Much like Mr. Freeze, Clayface is a character who received very slim usage compared to some others, but all in all it’s beneficial, as his more brief story arc is comprised of nothing but top tier episodes.

I'm convinced they went with Hagen instead of Karlo in this version because the name Matt Hagen sounds more like the name of 90s movie star.

Look up actors from the 20-50s, you’ll get some pretty unique names.

There have been a lot of characters over the years that have the name Clayface, but when it comes to adaptions, whether it's live action, animated or video games, they almost always use either Basil Karlo (Because he's the original) or Matt Hagen (due in large part to the Btas version). The only exception to this that I'm aware of is the version seen in 2004's The Batman cartoon, in which Clayface was an original character made for the series.

Karlo actually did appear in The Batman 2004 and became Clayface II.

JD Dumas

I know that. I just chose to omit it. He has expressed an interest in check that out someday.

I feel like the first one is the real spoiler, hence why I haven’t name dropped that one.

They nailed Clayface for sure. I doubt any other versions will top this one for me.

Don't worry. I probably will forget by the time we get to those series/parts. XD
