It's worth noting that Two-Face wasn't originally conceived as a two-part episode. That's why there's such a huge gap between the two episodes and why each one has a different vibe to it. The writer for this episode, Randy Rogel, thought the ending of the first Two-Face episode was too dower, so he pitched this episode as a second half and I guess the producers loved it. A recurring theme in Rogel's writing is the power of love. Most of his episodes revolve around angry men who are lashing out at the world that hurt them, only for love to pull them back. And he takes a very mature view on the subject. In Rogel's world view, love is a neutral, but meaningful force. It belongs to everyone, not just the good guys. Love can't erase the past or absolve people of their sins, and it doesn't guarantee a happy ending. But love always matters, even when it loses, because like Batman said, it gives people hope.

- The black and white suit has become iconic to me and how I believe any definitive Two-Face should look. Prior to this in the comics, he wore anything from brown and green, to orange and purple, etc. Black and white is so simple and yet the writers chose a combo that so obviously fit the character better than any other. I’ve also always preferred the blue skin as a sort of chemical burn vs basic charred flesh. - As phenomenal as the first part is, I believe this second part to be even better for completely different reasons. Back when this first aired, ratings from younger viewers really put this episode down in contrast to the first, but over the years this has quickly changed. The writers said very early on that this episode in particular was never going yo be a story understood by children, but rather one written for the adults, and I totally understand what they mean. Imo, the single best overall story in the whole series (not to say a whole lot don’t come close). - The writers really highlighted Harvey’s/Two-Face’s strength as a brawler, both in the first episode, and here, both breaking Bruce’s ribs with a single shove and overhead tossing that goon. He’s no trained fighter or martial artist, but Harvey is a LARGE dude, scarily built, and he puts that muscle to use. - Shoutout to the animators for the rain effect overlay, very well done. - Another shoutout to Richard Moll for his absolutely phenomenal acting as Two-Face, particularly the ending scene where he’s frantically, sickly, crazily sorting through all the coins trying to find his own, having just an absolute meltdown. Absolutely peak.

‘Make ‘Em Laugh’, ‘The Mechanic’, ‘Paging the Crime Doctor’, ‘Riddler’s Reform’, ‘Robin’s Reckoning’ (Part I & Part II), ‘Two Face’ (Part II), ‘Tyger, Tyger’. All episodes written by Rogel, nearly every single one an absolutely top tier episode. ‘Robin’s Reckoning’ won an Emmy, one of the select few episodes to win one, alongside ‘Heart of Ice’ and ‘A Bullet for Bullock’. That alone should tell you what that man was capable of writing.

Don't forget, he also co-wrote Batman-Mr. Freeze: Subzero. Also, thanks for the list, I had no idea he wrote "Paging the Crime Doctor". Sigh. That one always gets me.

I never knew that! A very controversial movie, given that it was originally only conceived in alignment with the Schumacher film ‘Batman & Robin’ (starring Arnold’s Mr. Freeze) and Bruce Timm never worked on it himself, so he never personally considered it canon (even if it still is). It completely undid his ‘White Christmas’ comic story, which made him especially mad, and why it’s the only story not included TNBA’s ‘Holiday Knights’ adaptation of the other stories. I quite enjoy the movie myself though and I think it’s a good series finale. I do wish it had stayed the finale to Freeze’s story though.

The entire package was just pure peak. Crazy to think about the quality of cartoons back in the 90s compared to some of the slop kids get now. I agree. The black and white suit fits the whole theme so well. I think he had a green suit on in BTBATB?
