🌿 Lilacs + Pen & Ink “GRACE”
Today’s little watercolor started as a quick postcard study of lilacs—loose, playful, and a bit unpredictable (as watercolor tends to be!).
Not every painting goes exactly how we picture it, and this one is a great example of what I do when that happens. Instead of overworking it, I shifted direction and brought in pen and ink to add definition and interest.
I also added one of my favorite finishing touches—hand lettering. The word GRACE felt like the perfect fit for these soft florals, and it’s a reminder that not every piece has to be “perfect” to feel complete.

In this session, we also talk through:
letting go of overworking watercolor
how to simplify floral shapes
using ink to rescue or enhance a painting
and how small studies can turn into really meaningful pieces
Sometimes the best paintings come from just allowing yourself to play without pressure.
Hope you enjoy this one 💛
