Mastering Values with a Monochromatic Coastal Scene 🌲🎨
Hey, lovely community!
I’m diving back into a familiar view today. This moody, monochromatic coastal scene is one of my absolute favorites, and it is the perfect project for practicing water control and learning your values. When you strip away a vibrant color palette, you're forced to let light, shadow, and contrast do all the heavy lifting.
Interestingly enough, I’m actually repainting this piece today for an Etsy order that has been sold three times now! While it’s always an honor when an original piece resonates so much that it sells multiple times, I have a little confession: it can be surprisingly tough to paint the exact same image twice. Trying to capture that same spontaneous magic while keeping it fresh is a unique challenge!
Grab your favorite dark, earthy tones and a brush, and let’s play with some value scales together.
