Reminder! The first Relationship Poll for Displaced Hero is ongoing! Go vote if you haven't, and make sure you understand your vote. It became clear quickly that there was some confusion on the options, so even if you've already voted, I suggest you go check out the 'Addendum to this note' bit I added to clear that up.

No April Fools here! Just the regularly schedule programming! Which, in this case, means a nice pair of Automata chapters totaling just over 6,000 words! We get a bit of a time jump forward, to save us from getting lost too much in the weeds of minutia. The two chapters cover a bit of a few of how the girl's space projects and Mech Armor projects are going. Along with getting a bit of a idea how the overall war effort is going, through the lens of thsoe projects.

The next release, around the middle of the month, will shift over to show some of how the Guild and Heroics industry is going as. As well as possibly see the first production line for the Mech Armor come online. Along with, hopefully, seeing a peek of the future space station they are building. The first of many.

The art, by the by, is an AI generation of the Inari 1. Which will make sense when you read the chapters ;-).

As always, the new chapters are attached here. While you can find the Master Files containing the entire story in the Pinned Post. Enjoy!

"You know, unless they were wrong about the properties of the field they’d created and the atmosphere was ripped out of the cargo area the moment they stuck a contiguous object through both sides of the transfer chamber". -> this is utterly testable both by having momo make an ordinary rope, getting back in a space suit, and tossing one end out through the transfer chamber. or just ground side with a vacuum chamber.

I'm well aware. I just didn't think the extremely realistic step-by-step process that would actually be used to test this would be enjoyable to read. Since, in reality, it would have been like a 20-30 step incremental checklist of things to try before going through with the final step.

Matthew Robar

I kinda hope you do something about one for all soon, it’s the one thing I don’t like with where the story has gone and my biggest peeve about what we voted for as it feels like such a waste of a strategic resource

Novus's Fanfiction Works

*blink* Um...Momo is using One for All as a strategic resource here? That buoy masses WAY more than Momo herself does, meaning she's basically using One of All to amplify her Quirk and produce a lot more mass than she could normally. Literally the entire point of THEM doing a space program, instead of anyone else, is because Momo can use One for All to generate Space Stations from almost literally nothing. It's also, objectively, the only real reason no one protested that she should stay on the front lines. Using One for All in combination with Creation is able to make almost infinitely more impact than he punching things would. That is, at best, a tactical resource.

Matthew Robar

Huh, would’ve thought her quirk would’ve evolved or something as she was already capable of making things that out mass her in canon(by making a cannon! which weighs something more than 3,500KG not to mention however much the Electromganetic Railgun would weigh), so adding OFA feels like overkill when she could just make do with a quirk energy battery, or siphon off Midoriya as she’s spending long periods of time not doing anything with all that energy. Feel like she could survive off doing something similar as to what’s going on with All Might and just getting a huge energy infusion whenever she needs it as her capacity to store it should be pretty high. But you’re the author https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/vsbattles/images/0/05/Yaoyorozu%27s_Lifting_Strength.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190911174156 https://myheroacademia.fandom.com/wiki/Electromagnetic_Rail_Gun

From what little we know, Quirks get Amplified by One for All. In this fic it did two things for Momo, but we've really only seen the less in-your-face part so far, even if the other part was described. The low-key part actually IS a change to her Quirk, in that she can reabsorb things that she's partially created, so long there is still a connection to her body. This is how her power armor works. She creates it around herself, leaving a few bits around her spine still connected. Then she can just reabsorb it when she's done. Originally, it took a fair bit of time, several seconds either direction. At this point she's gotten it down to less than one. The second part, that's she's rarely abused (yet), is a MASSIVE increase to her lipid to mass creation ratio. She already had an obviously unequal distribution, as seen in the Electromagnetic Rail Gun example. But, while it hasn't been explicitly shown yet, the scale is VERY different. While the Buoy she created in chapter 124 probably doesn't mass much more than the Railgun, they were basically out there tiptoeing through testing. Once they get started properly building space stations, she'll be creating football-field-long support beams by the dozens. In single trips. Essentially, in this fic at least, OFA took Momo from: 'oh, I can create a tank if I want to but that would drain me.' To: 'oh look, I built a skyscraper and now I could use a protein bar or something.' She actually hasn't made huge constructs very often, as it's usually pointless. She did make a 3-story tall naginata against the MLA. But, really...why do that other than to properly rage with? She's up to like 80% One for All usage, and that's 80% of HER potential max, meaning she's already at All Might's Prime level. Punching shit is legitimately more effective for her than creating a tank. That's why she's switched gears. She knows she can do a LOT more with the infrastructure side with OFA boosted Creation.

Matthew Robar

But does she need that much potential construction? She’d have better reserves than canon for multiple reasons so she’d be above the “build a tank” level (70 tons or so), a satellite only weighs about a ton, with the International Space station weighing about 460 tons. Sure it’d change her potential from doing infrastructure in minutes to over a few weeks but with how much time they need to spend designing things she’d be able to produce enough to ease it. You wouldn’t want to make a satellite much bigger than the ISS and she could do that over a week and just continue to increase size. If you’re building on the moon or another planet she wouldn’t even need to do that much, after the initial building she would just need to fill it with some industrial equipment to process materials on sight for more buildings By the time this is all done Earth should have increased their launch capacity enough to take over and it becomes a colonisation level logistics problem instead of an outpost deployment.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

*cocks head* Did you actually pay attention to the numbers in the chapter? The very first space station they are building, a SMALL station to base themselves out of, is going to be three times the length and significantly more than that in mass over the ISS. This isn't building some half-assed space weapons. They're literally building an entire end-to-end industrial and manufacturing complex capable of supplying Earth, in space. At least that's the long-term goal. Not just military equipment either, but potentially a lot of other needs, since the Empire is mucking up the ability to manufacture anything and everything on planet as their current main strategy. As for launch capacity...WHAT launch capacity? I've stated repeatedly through the fic that the Quirk Wars caused space exploration to be completely axed. The rest of Earth barely retains the ability to keep GPS and Comm Sat conselltations in orbit. Worse, they are currently being actively crippled in trying to manufacture even war material. Where exactly do you think they are going to get the trillions of dollars in industrial might and materials needed to make new launch capacity? There's a reason they are basically just handing designs off to Momo and Izumi's team to build in space. No one else has the capacity under the current circumstances. That...that's literally the whole point in this entire chain which people voted for. That people wanted to see Izumi and Momo tackling all of that. Solving the big, planet-wide logistics problems and such. I'm VERY confused where you thought this was going after that option won the vote so decisively? Mind you, we're still going to see plenty about the Guild and Heroics, but this is now the main thrust of the story. Since it's what people wanted.

Matthew Robar

I might’ve missed the size numbers, and I thought you implied they were building up launch capacity because they decided to go with the shuttle which would be able to operate independent of Urraraka and Midoriya. I also took this to mean they would also want to minimise dependence on Momo I might need to reread

Tigger42

Good update. My biggest thought is that there should have been a clear split by now in the story. I thought that would happen when you felt with the usual villains.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Sort of? The Inari and its eventual sister ships will be for personnel transport. Moving PEOPLE to and from the space stations. As well as rescuing them if something goes wrong. But they'll never build enough of them to consider moving material. Mostly as it would be utterly pointless. Getting materials 'down' is as easy as organizing guided cargo drop pods. And there would be zero point in putting their industrial capacity in space if they were planning on moving material UP. At that point it would be better just to build their new manufacturing capacity into the cities as Arcologies they could protect with more RADS arrays. It would be far easier. The point of putting it up in space is that they're planning to completely remove things like mining, which happens in hard-to-protect rural areas, from being Earth based. At least as much as possible. It's those parts of the industrial process that are the most vulnerable to disruption. Technically, they could build the actual factories somewhere they could protect (like aforementioned Arcologies). But material gathering? That has to happen where the materials are, and the easy-to-access places have long since been stripped by centuries of industrialization. So, their logical solution is to put the material gathering in space. And if you're already putting extraction and refining up there, then you might as well protect the rest of the manufacturing chain by putting it up there as well. Though, even WITH Momo, it will take them years, since you're talking about supplying the entire planet. Not just a small nation like Japan. Still, in the long-term, it's complete protection from a relatively low-tech civilization like the Empire. Not to mention a potential point to retreat to if everything eventually goes REALLY bad. Which is what makes the idea so attractive to everyone ELSE. The rest of the world wouldn't have jumped on board if Momo and Izumi hadn't launched into the project on their own, as it would be utterly impractical without Momo. But once they realized it could be done, the saw adding their own resources to the effort as a good strategic solution.

Oh! Sort-of-an-Author's-Note-But-Not-Exactly. Just as a small anecdote, really. The Inari 1 was named as it is due to trying to figure out which of the Japanese Pantheon fit. Apparently, Inari is also the kami of Industry, along with the whole fox thing that I think most people in the west associate him with.
