Whew! An early morning release...mostly because I just finished editing it and figured why not? At least for you guys, gals, and others. I'll probably hold off on the new public chapters until I've slept ;-). It takes like an hour+ to get them up on the various sites. Ugh.

Anyway, a couple of things about this set of chapters!

1) It's the first time I've actually written a Pokémon battle. I kept the only one that has much detail to it short and sweet for a reason. Mostly, because I have zero clues if I did alright with it. Feedback on the Battle Courts battle from Chapter 14 would be appreciated! Love it, hate it, think it's just 'meh?' Drop a comment and let me know.

2) Something I think I've mentioned before, but bears repeating, is that I'm mixing and matching events/locations/lore in this version of Pokémon a lot. Including adding some extensions on existing lore that seem logical, but aren't strictly canon to any version of Pokémon. It's very much an AU, and you should remember that before going 'It doesn't work like THAT!' to anything :-p.

3) Originally, I couldn't find a profile for the artist. But thanks to Shin Hawk, I can now point you to Velvet_Nymph's Pxiv. Thanks Shin!

Aside from those points, I'll just mention that I'm pretty happy with how this developed. I actually struggled a lot to get it properly going this month. This fic is the most happy-go-lucky of all of my current works and I wasn't in the best state of mind for that when I started writing it. To the point that I actually detoured and knocked out 5k words of a completely different idea I had just to get it out of my system a bit.

I may or may not publish that other project, it's...honestly more of a self-indulgent story than I usually write. With something close to an SI protagonist. Which is something I don't do normally. (No, Luffy is not an SI in Halfway Broken, despite people persistently not paying attention to me saying that on an irritatingly frequent basis. 'Alex' was intentionally generic and has almost zero similarity to me).

Anyway, back to this story. This set of chapters are just shy of 14,500 words. Technically slightly short of the typical goal. But the place it stopped was a good place to do so and there wouldn't have been another such for at least another couple of thousand words so...yeah. 15k is always a rough estimate and it goes long just as often as short.

As usual, the new chapters are attached here in various formats, and the new Master Files, containing the entire story, will be up in the Pinned Post shortly. I'll also be doing some Author's Notes for the chapters after I get that done. You'll be able to find them in the comments, as usual, though it might take an hour or so.

Chapter 13: A/N 1: A quick note on distances, city sizes, and so on. I'm basing this sort of thing FAR more on what we see in the Anime, where cities are actually city sized, rather than just a handful of houses and a Gym. And where Ash and Co can wander for days between cities, even when the aren't actually lost (which is a lot of the time...). A/N 2: Crunchies. Pewter Crunchies (from one of the later games you can visit Kanto in, I think) are basically the only 'Regional' treat I could find for Kanto. Food was a thing that mostly got added in games that don't cover Kanto much. So I extended the idea that Crunchies are a regional thing like Puffins, Masladaes or so forth.

Chapter 14: A/N: Structure, structure, structure! If Pokemon were real, rather than a game or anime, there would need to be a lot more structure/infrastructure to support how the Trainers work. Because not all Trainers would be the same level, nor would they go up in level in a progression. The Battle Courts and Battle Board are a way to address this. A system which I think is a sane solution someone in-universe would have hit on. Places where you could find out who was looking to battle and what general skill level they were. So you didn't get those much memed fights with an early Route Bug Catcher challenging your level 80 starter with Mewtwo as a chaser.

Chapter 15: A/N 1: Yeah, let's face it, even with me aging up the typical Journey age, Trainers are mostly still teenagers, unless they've made it their profession. So they are going to be super dramatic and Zoey was only slightly overreacting that they might get swarmed by people wanting things/demanding things of 2B. She's also more used to Contests, where fans are dealing with someone who is closer to a Celebrity. So she was probably projecting it to be worse than it would have been...but she wasn't entirely wrong. A/N 2: Daisy's friend that went on the shopping trip with them is ABSOLUTELY the one that convinced 2B just a semi-transparent negligee was the right choice for sleeping ;-). Poor Zoey... A/N 3: Oh no! Someone is following them! Gasp!

Chapter 16: A/N 1: I had a lot of fun fleshing out Viridian. I both thought it deserved more than it's ever gotten, and needed a place to set a first true adventure/misadventure. The Pokemon I choose are ones that actually can me found there, in one game or another, for the most part. Pinsir and Scyther are exceptions, but I think they fit well.

Chapter 17: A/N: Mwahahahaha, I bet I had you all thinking that the mystery man following them was a bad guy, huh? Maybe even Team Rocket given their history in Viridian. Nope! I personally think the Teams are a bit...over played. They also represent a poor element to pit 2B against, as she would agonize over fighting with humans. Since I'm intentionally keeping this story to a somewhat more upbeat exploration of what it 'means to be human' rather than dragging it down into the desolation and pain common to the same question in Nier, that's not a way I wanted to go. Oh, she may eventually run into Team Rocket or poachers or something, but I'm aiming for MOST of 2B's conflicts to be more pokémon based, like this one was. Dealing with swarms, or an angry ex-trainer pokémon that is causing trouble, or other such things. Adventures that can be serious and even deadly, while still keeping the relatively light tone of the overall story.

Lishmael

Nice! Thanks for the chapters!I like your take on Pokemon world here, feels solid enugh, which is definitelly not a given.

Orchamus

Loving that everyone expects 2B to get into and cause/solve trouble😁 Also hehe, Daisy already getting that schadenfreude going on.

Dont_like_to_Talk

Thanks for the chapters. I liked the fights well enough. In Pokémon fights I like the most when authors get creative with moves and power level and don’t restrict themselves with the game rules. I think it was nicely done.

WhatAFungi

So much good stuff in here I can’t even list it all. At some point I’m really hoping to see 2B actually fight a Pokémon mono e mono. Also, more Zoe flustering would be appreciated. :P Can’t wait for more, thanks for the chapter!

Fireblade974

I loved the chapters and well done on the battles they were a little short but they were pretty much curbstomps so that makes sense. I love seeing you fleshing out the world and mixing the various forms we have seen pokemon through. I look forward to your first longer battle (I assume the first gim) and looking forward to the caous 2b will get upto.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Yeah, Gym battles will be longer in format. I kept the first one short on purpose to see how it went :-). Thanks for the feedback!

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I mean, that's how she captured Chinchou and she took out a couple one on one this time :-p. But I get that you mean a more thoroughly described fight between her and a Pokemon ;-).

Mr Fox

Now that you've brought up the lab trainers being watched i like to imagine that all of ashes companions were league plants of one sort or another. I mean if you think about it an oddly high number of his companions are related to gym leaders.

Mr Fox

My money for kanto-johto is on brock you can't trust someone who won't look you in the eye

Novus's Fanfiction Works

*gasp* So the only trustworthy person in Brock's whole family was really Lola all this time?!

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Thanks! Replaced point 3) with a link. I don't have a pixiv login, so that must not be visible to me due to content filters. But I'll take your word for it :-).

Eklis

I love it!! And I totally love and think it is now canon that the League is aware of the 'Ash' type of people and call them 'one of those'! xD

Camille

Thanks for the chapter! 2B getting a Machop she can eventually spar with hand to hand would be awesome! Or a Lucario would maybe work even better so they can both fight with aura constructs 😎

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Eh, probably not the Machop, but the Lucario is certainly a solid chance because of the Aura thing. Or possibly a Medicham eventually, given the mix of it being mention in pokedex entries as having aura sight and 2B's pokemon leaning toward 'cute.'
