Surprise Update: Why Was There No Truck?! (Patreon)

Alright! Bit of a surprise for you all, even if I've mentioned adding to this slowly from time to time. I am working on Halfway Broken's update, though some life circumstances have slowed that down. I'm not going to get into why, but I'm in a great deal of pain at the moment, which made it easier to edit this than to write new stuff. Halfway Broken might be a little later than usual, but I figure this was popular enough the first time I released some of it, that you might forgive me for that.

Anyway, what we have here is roughly another 12,000 words more of Alyssa's adventures in the wild amalgam world she got dropped into. If this still gets the same sort of unexpectedly positive response that the first release of it did, I might put it on the poll as an option :-). One way or another, I hope you enjoy this little bit of extra!

Note: It also now has it's own master file (or will in a few minutes) in the Pinned Thread, containing the entire story.

Chapter 10: All work and no play is always a bad idea. Better yet, this chapter let me both show off Alyssa's limited a little more, and play with one of the points of this fic. That is, experimenting with a whole bunch of stuff. Such as including an attempt at something like the Forum posts you see in Worm Fics. That's a potentially useful tool to show outside perspectives without them REALLY being outside perspectives that I've wanted to experiment with for a while.

Chapter 11: Yes, Alyssa has a bit of chaos in her. Mostly because she WAS originally based off on me, and I do as well ;-). Her little stunt in the Narrows actually highlights something that's always annoyed me, though. We see a loooooottttttt of fics, or even actual series, with characters that bitch and moan about PR stuff they need to do. Rarely do we ever actually see the other side, though. The truth is that PR actually DOES have a critical role for Heroes, if they want to be effective, and it's one thing Batman and his little minions have always been completely shit about. If the public doesn't know who you are and what you're about? Then shut up and stop whining that you aren't making any progress, dimwit. Punching a few bad guys isn't very useful if you don't do the PR leg to make sure the bad guys know why you did it, and let the Public know you aren't just there to make shit worse. Without public support, any attempt to shift crime rates is useless, no matter how much money or violence you throw at a problem. Well, short of becoming a military state, at least.

Chapter 12: A/N 1: I spent a fair bit of time combing through options for who might be good local recruits in Gotham. That meant sorting through where I wanted each one to be within their personal framework. How powerful they are, and how willing to work with others they'd be. In example, I could have used Zatanna as she has a presence in Gotham at times. But she both tends to be a lone wolf if she's older than teen years AND the adult versions of her tour most of the time, which means she's not often in Gotham. Black Canary was actually a nice surprise, I'd forgotten that some versions of her are Gotham natives. 'Hawkeye' got an in as being one I'd already mentioned, with at least some versions of Artemis being reasonably team-oriented. For the third, since this is an amalgam universe, I really wanted to pull someone from Marvel or MHA. Nocturne is a bit niche, unless you happen to be familiar with the Exiles series. Which, as it happens, is actually one of the only comics runs I've read entirely through. This ISN'T her Exiles version, just to be clear. Much like many of the other characters don't full match up to any one version of them from the various media, she'll be a little different if they meet. A/N 2: The Neon Dragon Triad technically does exist in some versions of Gotham. No idea which ones. I'm basically using a combined with of all known Gotham villains groups to pull targets from.

Chapter 13: A/N 1: One thing we all-to-rarely see considered in Hero stories is what the heck to do with the people you rescue afterward. Batman...I don't know of a single case where we see what, if anything, he does about that. We certainly never seems to accomplish much as Bruce Wayne, despite the fact he should honestly be more effective for Gotham as Bruce Wayne than Batman. I'll call it benefit of the doubt to assume he DOES have systems in place, even if we don't see them. It does seem more like something Stark would do, though. Particularly as I'm using the more mature acting versions of him from various comics, rather than the MCU pure playboy. Even in the MCU, we see him trying to make a serious difference with Arc Reactor power for New York, becoming a big name in clean energy. Him helping Wonder Woman arrange a support organization for a cause she's personally invested in, which just so happens to glue her strongly to the Avengers? That seems like something he'd do in a heartbeat. It also adds a touch of realism to the world by not just handwaving the issue away entirely. Instead, making sure their are experts at hand to deal with Victims Alyssa isn't trained to handle. A/N 2: Whew! More research was needed for this one to pull together a suitable strike team! Storm and Shadowcat are two characters I'm extremely familiar with, which is why they were the two that spoke the most. Elecplant, by the by, is one of the few American heroes mentioned/shown in MHA. Though I changed him a bit, as we don't know much about him. Again, a case of me wanting to have the group show off the amalgam nature of the universe by pulling from different groups/places/series. The resulting level of power for the group is why I didn't bother to show the combat this time. Frankly, Alyssa was right to call that group overkill...

Thanks for the chapters. Big fan of this story already. My only worry being that my favourite might be slower on updating if this gets added to the voting options (assuming My Hero Automata loses the regular updates, really want to see that one to the end). And yeah. The combat here really isn't nessecary. Wonder how far shadowcat is going to spread the description of powers that Alyssa gave her. The faster than wonder woman part combined with Shield and others likely tracking her flight over the atlantic probably will help spread the knowledge that she very much is a high powered hero. Especially as she mentioned being able to hold up Grundy, even as the weakest and one the Avengers/Justice League can easily deal with he's still an endbringer and being able to fight one of those by yourself is probably a big indication of just how much power Alyssa claims to have.

Mh good good more of this one I really would like more of this..... So for the actual chapters I do appreciate the acknowledgement that heros need breaks and an actual work live balance and that Alyssa is in fact aware of that ..... Well it will be interesting to see what you will do with the melded together things of her physiology and powers..... Right I don't know if it was Wise to admit to that much of her powers but it was besides the "magic" bit all stuff that would come out relatively easy but I'm skeptical if the extend of it was warranted like the faster than wonder women or being able to handle Grundy.........with how calculated Alyssa does some things it could have a reason but it could also have just slipped mhh hopefully we will see next time

YES! So glad this got updated! Smart of Alyssa to NOT poach Barbara from Bruce…even though I kinda want her to. ONLY if Barbara comes to her first though, on that I agree with. I like Bats well enough but…don’t need to explain since you pretty much hit the nail on the head. And yeah, all work and no play is not healthy. Glad Alyssa took some time off. No matter what verse it is, Gotham will always be something ready to explode. All you can do is what Alyssa is: make it less explody. From a small nuclear bomb to mere dynamite. Hope this uploads again soon!

I'm loving this story I wouldn't mind if it was added to the polls but I think after that you're reaching the point where no more should be added sense that would bring it up to 5 so even if they get split even (they probably won't) that's 2-3 updates a year for the polls witch is probably pushing it as far as keeping the feeling of regular updates you currently have.

I like a lot of the older Batman interpretations, but most of the newer ones are...paranoid nutjobs whose writers are too busy imagining themselves as secretly being him or something, to write him realistically. They feel like bad self-inserts, since they treat him like he can never lose and will always outsmart his opponents with the power of 'I'm the Protatgonsit, Bitch!' even when it's NOT his comic run. Ugh.

Glad you're enjoying it :-). As for what she said to Shadowcat, it's because of WHO she said it to. She'd never have admitted that much to people she expected to spread it around. But letting one of the major Hero groups operating in her region get a feel for her basic power level and powerset is something she sees as just good sense. Though she kept things vague, even then. Like not mentioning her telepathic abilities, which she has no intention of ever admitting to anyone that doesn't figure it out on their own. Except members of her own team, probably.

Yeah, a big part of the reason I didn't originally add this to the polls is fear that I'll end up with too many options and not get updates to enough of them to keep them feeling active. As for the spread. To an extent that's the point ;-). Though Shadowcat likely won't report it beyond the X-men themselves. She does want to slowly earn the reputation of being a powerhouse, since it will help her secure the team she wants...

Right shadowcat is a "mutant" they are always more secretive than most other heros and mostly a lot better at actually keeping secrets secret..... As you were saying with Fireblade974 that you will likely at this one to the polls I need to agree with them that is a bit much you should likely first finish my hero automata or one of your other stories before you do so even if this one is already on second place of my personal list of your storys after one piece

Really? I honestly figured the fact that a huge chunk of the opening release was effectively character creation would turn people off of it :-p. The fact that so many people seem to like it, despite what I'd normally consider a relatively slow start, is throwing me for a loop. A good loop mind you, but a loop nevertheless ;-).

Normally you would be right but the initial release was large enough and had enough actual story in addition to character creation that it offset that. It actually ended up being a nice self contained mini arc that gave me a good idea of what im in for with this

I love this so far. Thank you for writing an actually thoughtful and intelligent protagonist in this type of story. I hope we get to see some Nocturne love, TJ is a fun character, but doesn't get nearly enough attention.

Wait after so much back and forward i think even the author lost track. What does our mc look like? Last i was keeping track it was medusa rider from fate with albino-like coloration but then there was a comment about starfire when she checked herself in the hotel.
