Alright! Time for the new release of 'Why Was There No Truck?!'. I'm pleased, if still a little surprised, to see how many people like this crazy Amalgam-verse! This time, we see the opening bits for the formation of Alyssa's team. You can guess who's involved by the art, I suppose ;-). Note that the team will grow in time, these are just her first steps! Nocturne's Art is one of the official covers from the Marvel Exiles comic run (though I caution you, I've changed her a bit, see authors notes for that). The Black Canary art is the work of diabolumberto. Like Nocturne, her details don't 100 percent match any single DC version of her, though her changes are less significant.

This update is a little bit slower than the previous content for this fic, I think. Several things needed to happen, including a fair bit of dialogue, in order to start putting various bits into place for later events. I think it came out reasonably well still, though, and is only just barely shy of a full 15,000 words. So a healthy update all around.

As always, the new bits are attached to this post in various formats. Likewise, I'll be updating the Master Files in the Pinned Post shortly. There will also be a few Authors Notes in the comments, once I have time to write them up! I hope you enjoy more of 'Why Was There No Truck?!'!

Chapter 14: A/N 1: So, Barbara and Alyssa have officially met...but barely. A little insight into Batgirls thoughts and the hero politics of Gotham. A/N 2: A couple of notes on Nocturne. First, this is NOT the version of her that was part of the Exiles. Second, literally no image I've ever seen of her, official or not, has EVER looked like she has fur. Even if she's described as having fur, it just...doesn't actually come across. I decided to make that a thing, given she's a hybrid anyway. Blue from Nightcrawler, but skin instead of fur from Wanda. Who are, in fact, actually together in this Amalgam. Though that might never actually be important. Second, I've altered her powers slightly. Frankly, her possession ability is just...not that helpful for story friendly. Nor does it actually fit with EITHER of her parent's powersets. As such, it's been swapped out for her father's teleportation ability.

Chapter 15: A/N 1: I know some people will likely think it's a little weird that Alyssa is showing some of her cards so easily. The truth is that this is intentional. She is, essentially, overcompensating in a nerve-fueled attempt to recruit the pair. Despite having Motoko's skills, she's still an introvert that doesn't People well. Thankfully, Nocturne and Black Canary aren't the sort with whom that's actually a mistake.

Chapter 16: A/N 1: No, I've never played Overwatch. In truth, I didn't know much about the organization either. I was researching possible team names when I hit on the idea and did a little reading. So, essentially, Alyssa's knowledge is literally my own level of understanding from a brief wiki-dive. A/N 2: I'm in line with Alyssa on her thoughts, though. A lot of Marvel/DC issues, in particular, would just...go away...if all the people with Hypertech in the setting actually worked on uplifting Earth, instead of it being a stagnant comic-book setting that never grows.

Chapter 17: A/N 1: Much like basically everything else in this Amalgam, we're dealing with an alternate version of Black Mask and the False Facers here. I took cues from several iterations of him and them to create a derivative that fits this particular Gotham.

Chapter 18: A/N 1: Oddly, the ATF is one of those agencies I sort of forget exists most of the time. But when I thought over who would be the most likely to want to know about a ton of heavy weapons in criminal hands on a Federal level, they are who makes sense...

Enjoyed the new chapters. Talia certainly has an interesting reaction to finding out what Alyssa is packing. So her getting with Alyssa seems to be quite a likely conclusion (not that I really expected anything else). Glad to see them making some clear progress against Gotham's crime scene. And it not being a cakewalk and there being setback like those two civilian casualties in the faces ambush. Kinda wondering when Grundy is going to show up. I'm rather looking forward to Alyssa her first time facing this 'endbringer'

Good stuff, possibly Talia as a friendly role in the hay as well as senpai in matters more Heroic than Special Forces. And the note the GCPD is getting cleaned up is nice. Be curious to see others thoughts on the new team. Also it's amusing that both Barb and Dick both have hunches that Bruce has become part of the problem

I actually have NO idea where the pairing in this one is going. It's far less mapped out than the other fics. My current plans are mostly 'throw suitable characters into the mix and see who ends up clicking'. :-p I do have a vague outline for Grundy to show up before too much longer, though possibly not in the next update of this. This story is played by ear more than the others, with only a very loose sketch of where it's heading, since it was originally mostly an experiment.

I'll almost certainly include some reactions from others in-universe in the next update of this. Possibly even another form thread thing, though that thing was enough of a pain in the ass I'm not entirely sure I want to make more of them T-T.

Mh wonderful as always..... I really do like the idea of overwatch in the sense of uplift and having an actual good egg head organization as this is a weird amalgam there should be quite a few evi/stupid ones around..... I'm also fully for snatchings barb from the bat.... One thing on the one hand barb could already be operating as Oracle but as this amalgam has worm in it you could also have tateltale/Lisa wilbourn as Oracle operating in Gotham.... She could perhaps work as a teammate.... Also you said somewhere in the comments that you don't have any plans for pairings yet..... I have ideas..... First you could make the whole team a polycule..... Second please somehow include quake/sky/daisy johnson please..... There are a few more but those are a bit more ridiculous.....

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. Just when I got used to the LAST UI change Patreon forced on creators, they changed it again, and now I have to figure out everything piece by piece that I used to do habitually in a new system. I seriously, seriously, loathe the fact that they change the creator UI like, twice a year, at minimum.

Eh. To be honest, I'm not all that familiar with Worm. I've basically only read fanfics of it. So I'm not really eager to include main cast characters from that series...and Lisa is pretty annoying and very much not altruistic enough to have made that map in any version of Worm Fanfic I've read. The team as a polycule is a Possible idea I have floating in my head, but I'm not entirely sure I'll go with it. It feels a bit too Porn with Plot instead of Plot with Porn. As for Quake/Skye, I'm afraid I haven't seen any of the MCU content that includes her, and I'm leaning heavily toward the comics and cartoons rather than the MCU anyway. Ironman for example, is NOT his MCU version, but the considerably more mature and less horrifically egocentric version from the comics.

Whoa! I slept on this story when it first came out, I wasn’t in a super hero mood at the time. Now I’m really sad I didn’t read this sooner. This story has so much potential and I definitely think you should add it to the monthly vote. Also , this is the second story you’ve written that looks like the first love interest is a sexy, exotic, blue skinned individual. Did you have some awakening as a child relating to the blue man group? ;P I think it would be really funny, if the OC/SI takes Barbra from the bat. And then also fucks White Tiger. And this is coming from a Batman fan. Thank you for removing Superman. I hate him with a passion. Literally the worst super hero in my opinion. Great chapter!

I'm glad you enjoyed it, now that you're back in the mood for heroes ;-). You know, I hadn't actually connected the blue skin thing :-p? I'm afraid your Blue Man Group theory doesn't hold water, since I don't remember even hearing about them until I was already well into my teens, and I've never done more than watch a youtube video of their work ;-). Hmmm, I was into DnD in my fairly early teens, so maybe Forgotten Realms Moon Elves are to blame? Or, probably more likely, Mystique from the X-men cartoons. Assuming we go with blue at all, rather than just 'exotic' in general, which I think is probably a bit more accurate... I'm absolutely angling for Barbara to defect eventually ;-). Though, since I'm writing this one a lot more by the figurative seat of my pants, it's not certain it will work out that way. I'm fairly with you on Superman. I understand why people like him, but...he's basically the ultimate Gary Stu. I don't blame his creators for that, he was one of the FIRST ever comic style heroes, which means they had ALL the mistakes to make still and hadn't needed to put any thought into balanced worlds. But the end result is that he's just...not entertaining, as far as I'm concerned. Too perfect, too OP, too plastic, really.

Well ok fair point for Lisa ..... For the team polycule they would still be a hero team so they would be to exhausted most of the time to actually make enough porn things happen and it would probably take some time to actually get to that far as it also depends on the team composition......so you could easily adjust the plot to porn ratio to your liking Right skye is mostly agents of shield in the MCU but we do have her quake persona in a quite few of the comics if I remember right

I didn't even really know about this story until I saw the update and I just binged it. Definitely loved it, certainly think it's worth adding to the monthly possibility list.

Oh, oh please recruit Mercy! Winston and Tracer would fit in as well. Winston especially as he's more of a scientist than a fighter. Having Doomfist become something like a Kingpin would be amusing. It's the AI's from Overwatch that are the real threat from that setting. They have the ability to build rather robust armies, and even Kaiju sized mechs. Really love this story.

I'm really liking this story. I put it on the back burner when I first saw it but it's now a 'to read immediately'. Even just making the attempt to fuse so many superhero worlds together is fascinating, and I can't wait to see how it goes. Also Worm??? Are we getting the Queen of Snazzy Hats? Do they not know about the giant crystaline worms or is this a 'that's an Earth-Bet problem and this is Earth-Zeta' kind of thing?
