Whew! Bit close on this one! Doing the first release of Stripper with a System nearly made me late with this release! As a reminder, There is Currently a Poll Ongoing regarding Eridium Dreams and Stripper with a System. Make sure to vote on it if you care about either story!

With that reminder given, time to talk about this release of Halfway Broken! These chapters (bit over 9,600 words) represent the true start of the 2-year time skip arc. As I've said many times, I will not be skipping this period the way Oda did. There will be some time skips, but they will be much smaller chunks of time. Meanwhile the crew will be hitting both islands that were seen in reviews from their time skip training in canon, and some original islands besides.

This period will not focus purely on their training. That would get old, quick. Instead, in addition to some original adventures similar to what I did with Wind's Home/The Crystal City, it will also be a time period in which intra-crew dynamics can be more properly built up. In example, getting the multi-ship pairing for the story (Luffy/Nami/Robin/Vivi/Yamato) fully off the proverbial docks. Meanwhile, some crew members that I couldn't give enough attention to due to the compressed timeline of the main Grand Line run, will also get a little fleshing out. Likewise, we'll continue getting outside perspectives (one chapter of this release focuses on such, in fact) to show how the world outside the Straw Hats is shifting more and more away from canon.

This release happens to be a good example. One chapter of training, one chapter of relationship and crew interaction, and one chapter of outside perspectives. Though it won't always be as clean as that. Anyway! That's the plan moving forward, so enjoy this most recent release! As usual, the new stuff is attached here in various formats, and I'll be posting new Master Files in the Pinned Post. I'll also put author's notes in the comments below when I have time.

Chapter 86 A/N 1: The crew's need for a true 'base' is a bit nebulous, due to Vivi and the Discovery's abilities. This is why the set Sixis up mostly as a training location, where they can be destructive without inconveniencing anyone, and not be seen as they develop either. A/N 2: I totally stole a small bit of the shooting competition lines from the Mass Effect shooting competition between Shepard and Garrus. Bonus nerd points for anyone that spotted it ;-).

Chapter 87 A/N 1: A little bit of cultural justification, to make the multu-ship fit into the story better. I try to make even harems as natural as possible, rather than just being there for the smut, and I've been hinting in Luffy's thoughts for quite a while that he's MISSED something. Specifically, he's been blind to the differences between the disjointed nature of disconnected cultures and societies in One Piece, compared to what he was used to in his past life. Realistically, historically, monogamy wasn't the only option in our world either. In the One Piece world, it makes even less sense for it to be the universal societal norm.

Chapter 88 A/N 1: Ah, poor Garp, face with an enemy Fists can't directly defeat! Of course, his brute force nature and insane ideas are going to come up with some very different solutions than another Admiral would have... A/N 2: Congrats to the few people that guessed Cobra ate the Sube Sube no Mi/Smooth Smooth Fruit. I figured it would make for a few comedic assassination attempts gone wrong...along with a funny reaction the first time Vivi sees him after he ate it :-p. Which hasn't happened yet. A/N 3: I do believe I mentioned at some point that, while he will never join the crew, Franky will still get a Cameo or two ;-). Now you can see where that will happen. As to how they expect to pull off the Calm Belt Seatrain? Simply coat the underside in Seastone. At worst, they'll have to replace sections of track from time to time when a seaking knocks it out of place by pure accident. Given the trains move faster than ships, they are even less likely to be noticed as they cross through...

Kinda surprised there was no mention of possibly upgrading her slashers with seastone, particularly after Luffy grabbed a block of it for his own training. Sure, haki is better, but it has stamina issues that an always ready weapon doesn't.

To be fair though, she's a devil fruit user as well, seastone weapons would be just as dangerous to her as to her potential enemy and wouldn't solve the anti armor problem.

Great chapters as always! With that said, I don't remember if Spandam's failure was described earlier. Clearly, Iceburg doesn't seem to know Kalifa and the rest's real identity, so they may not have been made, but I do wonder how Lucci's team failed without Luffy to throw a wrench in their plans.

Hmmmm but maybe it could be something for the future, for –let's say– when her Armament is stronger and quicker to deploy, so she's able to avoid damage if she messes up?

No no no, you're missing imagination~ Usopp lacks a short range trump card! Now, imagine a devil fruit user gets into his melee range, too close to really shoot. Here's my idea. Pocket Sand~! But instead of regular sand have it be a messed up mix of sea stone, glass, and a chemical mixture that'd make a german blush!

I know I've put it in A/Ns and I think it may have been mentioned off hand in the story? Essentially, without Robin to act as a catalyst, CP-9 still wasn't getting anywhere when the WG started pulling in everything for the Marineford War. Thus, CP-9 got quietly pulled out and reassigned to guard Celestial Dragons to free up Marines, with pretty much the entire unit dying ingloriously to the Strawhats at Sabaody as a result. Had they been left in place, it's possible they would have eventually found another path. But they'd been assigned there for YEARS without success in canon, and only got anywhere with Robin to use as a scare tactic for Iceberg.

I'm really hoping that the crew hits the venus fly trap island Usopp was stuck on in the timeskip, I feel like that island is interesting enough to potentially warrant a whole mini arc for it. If not Usopp's island then potentially Mihawk's island, the island's potential lore is cool plus everyone loves Dracule. Gotta say the outside perspectives continue to be some of my favorite things in this story plus it's great to see that even though the crew will never visit Water 7 it, and Franky, will still be relevant. Btw Novus, will Sanji be receiving any of his enhancements in this story? Ik that the raid suit was responsible for awakening them in the first place, but surely someone notices Sanji isn't a normal human and can awake his enhancements without the raid suit. Tyftc!

And if some mad cyborg lad were to say, add an emergency rocket booster to the seatrain, possibly one powered by cola, well then they could most likely speed through the calm belt fast enough to make the risk quite minimal.

You know what? The way you explained how relationships work on different Islands makes SO much sense. Wouldn’t be surprised if this was secretly Canon.
