Whew! Didn't quite make it on the 8th like usual, but I got close! In this case that was entirely the result of how long it had been since I worked on the fic, as well as some adjustments I decided to make. I needed to do a lot of double checking to make sure I was remembering bits and pieces right for the first part. As for the adjustments...

Given that this fic struggled in the polls to get updated, despite being one of the oldest and longest running fics I write, I revaluated it a bit. Previously, I'd estimated that I needed 6-8 updates to finish it entirely. Frankly, the chances of it getting that many updates anytime soon didn't seem likely. As a result, I sat down and made some tweaks. My Hero Automata always had the smallest amount of time skipping in any of my stories, usually no more than a week or two at a time and often not even that long. By engaging in some longer time skips (a month or two at a time) and paring down a few elements like the peeks into the Heroics and Guild operations, I've cut it down a fair bit. I now think that I can probably end the story within 3-4 updates, including this one.

I'm not entirely happy about doing that, as it's going to cause the later bits of the story to feel a bit accelerated and rushed. On the other hand, I won't rush it too much, and getting the story finished will give all my other works better odds in the poll, as I don't intend to introduce another to replace it there. Hopefully, this also encourages people to actually vote for Automata, as it will wrap the story up faster if it wins a few times without needing huge vote boosts.

Anyway! This release is just shy of 14,700 words, so pretty on target size wise, and pushes several elements of the story forward more rapidly. As always, the new chapters are attached here in various formats. While you can find the Master Files containing the entire story in the Pinned Post. I'll also be adding author's notes when I have time to do so! Enjoy the first update of My Hero Automata in a while!

Chapter 140 Author's Notes: AN 1: I wanted to show the reaction of the world to the new Androids, without drawing it out too much. So a TV broadcast, a set of Forum posts, A2's perspective to show the military/government reaction.

Chapter 141 & 142 Author's Note AN 1: I considered ditching this, due to the trimming I'm doing of the overall story, but I'd been teasing it in the update description this whole time so I didn't. It was intended as a way to break up all the time Izumi and Momo spent out of the action with a bit of a fun mini-adventure. All while building a bit on the running gag that is what I said happened to Australia :-p.

Chapter 143 Author's Notes: A/N 1: Here were see one of the major changes I'm making to shorten the story at work. Instead of showing the action and combat of the Guild and the military operations, I merely showed a brief overview of both. A/N 2: Same with the Hero side of the things. Originally, I might have showed Jirou's investigation in far more detail. Now, I minimized the focus on that side of things while still keeping it at least going in the background.

Chapter 144 Author's Notes: A/N 1: I'm seriously envious of Izumi's Emotional Recharge Station. A/N 2: I did some research, trying to get a feel for now many YoRHa Androids there actually were. The only answer I could find with vague support was 'several hundred.' Eliminating the scanner units from that, maybe 200-300 total, I figure. In theory, they could seed new androids with enough study, but that would take time. So they have a bit of a hard limit on how many unique YoRHa androids they can bring back. A/N 3: The 'Operator' Mech Armor is loosely based off the Locust from Battletech. It's sort of the quintessential 'light' mech from that franchise, which is where I pulled from for the Shieldmaiden as well. I don't quite remember off hand which mech I based the Shieldmaiden off of? I think it was either the Atlas or Marauder.

Chapter 145 Author's Notes: A/N 1: Finally! The Counter Offensive against the Empire begins! Honestly, this wouldn't have happened for another update or two, if I hadn't decided to curtail some of the Guild/Heroics content to speed up the story finishing. This was always the rough plan, though. It just would have taken more word count to get here.

Loved the chapters can't wait to see this story through to the end. I do agree with you pushing forward quicker and freeing up a voting slot the amount you have now is right on the edge of too many it feels. That being said if you ever want to go back after finishing the story when you have free time or if the mood strikes you, you could release expansion chapters giving the details you skipped over just labeled where in the story they would go and the would fit well sense the events still happend we just didn't see them in detail. Just an idea but ether way love your story's and can't what for more keep up the great work.

Yeah, I never originally intended to go up to five stories in the poll. I wasn't expecting 'Why Was There No Truck?!' to be wildly popular when I put it out as an experimental story. Since it ended up being so, it ended up getting added to the poll options, which honestly pushed things a bit farther than is completely tenable there. If I could free up more writing time to get a four story slot it would be different, but I haven't quite figure out how to do that.

I think it's a shame you have to slightly rush this story (I really wanted it to keep the regular update slot until it was finished. Would have been nearly done by now). Since this and Eridium dreams are what got me into reading your fics. But oh well I'll still be glad to see it finished eventually. And I'm glad to hear there won't be a replacement in the polls. 5 is a tad too much.

It is, I originally intended to poll to cap out at four. As I said to Fireblade as well, I legitimately didn't expect the overwhelmingly positive response to Why Was There No Truck?!. Which resulted in the currently slightly overloaded poll. As for My Hero Automata, yeah, I'm a little annoyed one of my first and longest stories dropped so much in popularity. But I guess My Hero Academia likely has a much smaller fan base than Star Wars and One Pieces...

I couldn't stop laughing throughout the Australia chapter because to be honest, even as an aussie I nope at the sight of anything with more than two legs or scales, I tell spiders if they stay away they'll get to live for longer but if you see anything with scales, its probably a hospital noodle and none of the very few friendly kind, its time to become Sniper and use a shovel to cut the bastards head off, so the chapter is probably accurate if you up sized all the animals and gave them powers.

So far, that's been the reaction of most Aussies to the idea that Australia got overrun by Quirked Animals in general. Most of them have gone, 'Yep, that makes complete sense' ;-). I admit I was actually surprised (given Australia's reputation for lethal animals) when I wrote those chapters and had to research animals to use. I ended up going with the whole mutagen increasing size thing because there don't seem to be many LARGE predators. Lots of dangerous small things. Loads and loads of those. But, aside from the Saltwater Croc, very little in the way of large predators. So upscaling the dangerous things was the solution to making my previous in-story comments about what happened to Australia make sense :-p.

Glad you liked it :-). I admit, I can't stop picturing a group of fans following A2 around as she slowly starts walking faster and faster to try and escape them. Mentally thinking 'can't run, they'll know I'm prey!'

Thank you for the update, it's great to see the characters again. It's sad to have to rush things a bit since I feel like the writing of fun interpersonal dynamics is one of your strongest abilities. Then again, I'd probably read a full length story just focusing on A2 being adorably awkward around her fans.

You're not wrong :-). Character interaction and worldbuilding are generally the things I'm best at. While combat is where I'm weakest. Still, it is what it is, sadly.

Currently re-reading this story, and wanted to point out that the author's note in chapter 1 is no longer accurate. It claims that 2B is the only character from Nier that will ever show up, but you must have changed your mind at some point with the addition of other androids. Might want to fix that, if only to cut down on complaints from people that you lied lol

I get it :-). The original comment was my original intent. I only changed course when Patrons unexpectedly voted for me to veer off and explore the industrial and large scale strategic picture. Originally, the story was supposed to follow the Guild System and there wasn't a place for additional androids. But with the change people wanted, it abruptly made sense to include them.
