Time for another release! This time it's the first half of the Author's Choice story for the month, which I made Pandora's Box since it both almost won the poll and hasn't had an update in a bit too long.

Now, before I go any farther, I imagine you are all curious about the explosion of images for this post :-p. Edit: Left the image meant to be Daphne, but Patreon's weirdness flagging the post meant I delated all the others. They and more can be found in a zip file now attached to the post. The first image is basically Daphne as she appears in the first chapter of this set. Not quite, as that should only be a half-jacket and she probably doesn't wear a cross necklace, but close enough ;-). The rest of the images are the result of a new shop that opened up at Hogwarts. Essentially, its just a set of images to give you an idea of the sorts of 'teen clothing' that is abruptly flooding off-hours Hogwarts. Technically, that's a bit of a spoiler, but a minor enough one that I felt explaining the images was more important than protecting you from it.

No more spoilers! Check the author's notes in the comments (once I have time to write them) for more commentary. Chapter 35, in particular, is a fairly big twist that I'm not about to spoil before you have a chance to read it!

As usual, the new content is attached to this post in various formats. Remember, Master Files are not being updated until a story is done for the month! So the new content is only here for now. Enjoy more of Harry Potter: Pandora's Box!

Chapter 34: A/N 1: I thought it was past time we see a bit of Pandora's perspective. The fact that she's more objective about the effects of Harry's doings, and the risks inherent to them, also made for a good way to zoom out a bit and view a slightly bigger picture. A/N 2: So, did anyway catch on that 'Cool Issue' is a rip off of 'Hot Topic'? Yes, some of the styles ARE a bit cringe ;-). These are teenagers who suddenly have access to more concepts of muggle fashion from Harry's theaters. Basically, if you can imagine a style coming of a 1990s or early 2000s Hot Topic rack? Than Cool Issue has a magical version that matches! The fact this let me take a sledgehammer to some of the fanon pre-conceptions about Daphne was honestly just a bonus... A/N 3: Yep, again, shattering some preconceptions. Daphne not only knows what D&D is, but she's played before... A/N 4: Despite what you might think with the Katie/Daphne scenes, the pairing for this fic is NOT set yet. It could be Katie, it could be Daphne, it could someone else entirely, or it could be a small harem. Right now, any relationship hinting is a lot of setting up 'possibilities' rather than locking anything in. I don't intend to start deciding the final pairing until Harry's fourth year. Not in full, at least. I may do a poll specifically about Katie before then.

Chapter 35: A/N 1: I'm actually curious if anyone called that it was Hooch. I actually DID leave some scattered hints. The comments about her being a psycho regarding danger in quiddich matches with Harry WEREN'T just commentary by me on her book behavior. Likewise, the conversation between the staff that pointed out it almost had to be a member of the staff. In fact, the very fact that the Heads of House were starting to investigate the staff is what pushed her to end events early than the usual end-of-year sheinnagians. The adults were actually being competent, and almost caught onto her, so she rushed to finish a ritual that...well, I haven't actually said in-story yet what it would have done. So wait until the next update for that! A/N 2: We also see that Harry, despite being much more competent than canon, is still partially reliant on luck/fate at this point. If his wand wasn't EXCATLY what it was, he wouldn't have been able to handle the encounter. Riddle had no idea he had a Thunderbird Tailfeather as his wand core, and even if he'd known, doesn't know wand lore well enough to realize that a ritual based on a STORM would have empowered it so.

Hey you need all the help you can get as the hero. Always born young while the villain is at their peak

Interesting twist, and not one I've seen before, I'm curious to see what gets revealed/recontextualized now that it's done. The one thing I'm a little hazy on is how she got to the ritual space without being noticed. Was she removed from refereeing Quidditch matches and I'm just not finding the reference, or did she set up the initial storm golems to trigger without her presence and used the distraction to slip into the ritual space, or something else that will be revealed later? Anyway, thanks for the chapter and thanks for picking this story to update.

Also, are spelling/grammar corrections in the comments here useful/desirable for you?

Novus's Fanfiction Works

The details will be gone over in the next chapter, as Dumbledore and the Heads of House debrief. But the super short version is she wasn't the ref for the match, due to a combination of factors they'll go into.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Yes, typo corrections are always useful. I don't have a beta, so anything I don't spot on my own editing pass through will go unfixed unless someone mentions it.

Loved the new chapters! Personally I think you can easily explain part of the changes in Daphne from normal canon/fanon away with the fact you've been properly handling the effects of Hogwarts start date being moved back 2 years and thus she's spent a couple more formative years with Tracey and her family! Especially if the initial reveal that magic is real was given to Tracey's family in time for the original canon start date shopping. That would have allowed Tracey's muggle father a couple years to work on sharing things like D&D with the Greengrass family that he wouldn't have had in canon which could have shifted and or made it more obvious to Daphne that pureboood's ACTUAL advantages exist entirely because they've got at least a century or more's time spent collecting resources for their kids to take advantage of than a non pureboood family. Especially since most pure blood family's will have at least partial access to the resources of the half of their ancestry whose family name they didn't take.

Okay, thanks, I just wanted to check. The one that jumped out at me here was spelling Lucius Malfoy's name Lucious (technically a real name too, just not how Malfoy's is spelled). Also, I forgot to ask in the first post, but given the locality and immediacy, wouldn't the storm effect have been a tornado, not a hurricane? Or does Harry not know what tornadoes are?

DALucifer

This is gonna have good consequences isn't it? The wand being so happy with everything makes me think we are getting a permanent power up here

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Thanks for the name spot! As for the Hurricane/Tornado thing, that is...complicated. While the U.K. actually has a lot of Tornadoes, they aren't the Supercell monsters seen in the United States. Its extremely rare for them to be more than F0 or F1s due to how they are formed. Strictly speaking, they don't experience traditional hurricanes either. Lacking context for any sort of major cyclonic weather event, though, 'Hurricane' is a logical leap. Remember, it was Ron Weasley who screamed it not, say, Hermoine, who might have been more precise.

Thanks for the update! Personally, I’m ALL for Katie/Daphne/Luna at this point in time. What a shocker, I know lol. Also, I’m both surprised and not at all that you had this year’s big showdown with Ol Morty happen so relatively early. Wonder how that conversation’s gonna go haha.

Novus's Fanfiction Works

That's the thing. There ISN'T a 'canon' personality for Daphne. She's a blank slate whose name is barely mentioned in the books. She's only really ever even mentioned twice. Once in Harry's sorting and once in OWL years as someone taking exams. That's it. Any personality given to her is 100% pure fanon. Meaning I can do whatever I want with her ;-).

Novus's Fanfiction Works

Mayyyybbbeee. It will certainly have effects. Though nothing super dramatic, at least immediately. Also not just for Harry...

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I'm a little reluctant to add Luna, as she's a SUPER hard character to do well, even if I've altered her a bit to make it easier. Fleur is certainly an additional possibility, though...

BobyCola

Thanks for the chapter, its getting good

Sadalfa

Glad to see that this is open again! Tftc!

Donan The Barbarian

Alright so I chose to check this post again after seeing the note it was back in the poll... I'm pretty sure this was arguably the photo with the MOST skin from the original 9 posted with this chapter... Yes it's also the most relevant since it's your image of Daphne instead of a general photo showing new styles getting introduced to the wizarding world but SERIOUSLY?!? That's a photo they let you keep but the other 8 need to be removed?!?

Novus's Fanfiction Works

I still have no idea what triggered anything, and they never responded to my questions. My best guess is that resubmitting it put it in a queue for an actual human to look at. Said actual human realized it wasn't explicit, and approved the resubmission. It's entirely a guess, though.

MultiverseCosms

Katie/Daphne/Fleur would be fun. I like Luna, but as you said, hard to do properly. I could totally see Fleur going the equivalent of Ara Ara to tease him. :-)

The Foreign Traveler

Hey! Moldevort! Do us all a favor and STAY FUCKING DEAD! Edit 1: “They” powers that be… “The” powers that be… Edit 2: “Properly” Raves… “Proper” Raves… Edit 3: …as heir “permeant”… …as heir “permanent”…(?) Or …as heir “apparent”…(?)

Cameron Ruff

Hey, i dont think these ever got posted to Fanfiction. I looked at the site, and it still only has 33 chapters.
