Right! Time for another release! This time, it's the first half of this month's Displace Hero!
Thankfully for my continued sanity, I was able to wrap up the invasion of Geonosis in this release. I seriously do not like trying to write large scale ground combat -_-, but I felt the need to do it for at least one full-scale battle with the League forces. Something to show both their strengths and weaknesses off. As a rule, they are going to do their best to avoid getting bogged down in such battles, and most of the time in the future I'll only show relevant segments of such. I genuinely think it needed to be shown at least once, though. The fact that it took a solid 20,000 words to chew through it, and that despite me not doing into too much detail, says a lot about why I don't want to get bogged down with it again.
Still, I'm actually fairly pleased with how well it went, despite that. Combat in general is, as I've admitted many times, not my strongest area when it comes to writing. Large scale ground combat is just about the worst of the lot, too, so this turning out as well as it did is pleasing at least. Even if I really don't want to do it again anytime soon. I also, for those that might be dreading reading it, included a lemon at the end as a palette cleanser to get over all the combat ;-). Seriously, both for me as the writer and you lot as the readers, I think we all needed a tone shift away from the combat slog...
Also, Zavra is chaotic fun, even in a combat slog, so there's that to look forward to too.
Anyway, this one is a bit over 9,500 words, ending where it did simply because it was a natural break point. I'll try to make the second release later this month a bit longer to compensate for not quite hitting the 10k word mark on this one. For now, enjoy more of 'Can One Displaced Hero Save the Galaxy?'!
P.S. As always, new stuff is attached. Also as usual, Master Files won't be updated until the second release of this per month.
P.P.S. The armor that is the second image for the post is more or less what I envision the Champions of Ossus using, as they are a serious martial order, rather than the dabblers the Jedi are. Though their armor would probably be a bit more colorful.
