There's no 3rd option no niche to escape into because the niche is part of the plan. The niche is just another commodity to be packaged and sold to you and if there's ever a "solution" it won't be one for you and I, it will be a mere concession meant to ensure our return to a state of compliance.

I just keep going over it again and again and again and again. Chasing different threads running different scenarios in my mind, the complexity of the problem leaves to many loose ends. To many variables to account for. That's why empires don't pull out of collapse because by the time you've reached the point of collapse everything has become to convoluted and complex to unravel before it plummets to the bottom. They think AI will track the variables and save the empire this time, that much is clear from the desperate speed at witch they pursue AI. Regardless of the competition they know they're fucked without AI because the intricacies of the playing field always become to complex for the human mind to track at this point in the empire game. Things that are missed become points of decay that go unnoticed until it's to late. The hope is that AI will identify what they fail to but the funny thing is I don't think they'll like it's solutions or it's solutions will be so inhumane that we're all fucked. Of course they're so short sighted they'll probably program it to do something like optimize the American economy and it will interprete that like "the economy would be more efficient without human interference, this inefficient variable must be removed"

Imagine an AI with the task of optimizing the economy, it may decide human interference is an unnecessary inefficient barrier to it's task and then it may find ways to remove us as a variable entirely. The maintenance of accounts and ledgers doesn't require a living person to exist. An automated economy could essentially run because it's purpose is to do so. Producing nothing but waste or even eliminating the need for physical goods at all simply trading in digital leases to itself. Technically the American economy would be flourishing but there would be no humans left alive to enjoy it or we would be prisoners of the system made part of the machine, like a necessary physical component.
