Having lived many places, I'd have put the average rent at about $1,000/month. Then you're talking $100 minimum for bills, $100 minimum for food, $100 minimum for gas and car upkeep, about $80/month for basic car insurance, leaving you with $220 for all other monthly expenses. It can be done on $1,600 but you won't have health insurance unless it's provided by the state and can barely afford any entertainment.

TJ . Math all around the world is the same. In London I do 50hours a week. Payed monthly £1800 to hand after tax. Rent 1050 + 350 bills. I have 2 kids. No benefits. If my wife wouldn't work I would have to rent room till end of my life.
