Tommy Flanagan is the Scottish actor who plays Chibs. In the show, he is also Scottish even though he used to be with the IRA. The scars on his face are real it is sometimes called The Glasgow Smile. He used to be a DJ and a gang attacked him outside of the club where he worked. They stabbed him and slashed his face leaving him with the scars. Love your reactions. You two are awesome. :-)

A bit deeper into the back story. He got stabbed a bunch of times in the body as well as being left with the face scars. The gang that attacked him told him that they'd "done his brother," which in Glasgow meant they had k*lled him. He smacked one of them and told them to meet him outside, where they proceeded to give him those scars.
