To celebrate the Easter season, this week's Pose of the Week is 'Sasangasana', aka 'Rabbit Pose'.
This is a really beautiful neck, shoulder and spinal stretch that also has a calming effect on the brain.
For those of you new to this pose, I show you a number of modifications to make it accessible and easy to learn.
Some great preparatory poses include:
- cat/cow
- child's pose
- thread the needle pose
Benefits of this pose can include:
- calming effect on the brain
- massages and stimulates the abdominal muscles and organs, thereby improving digestion
- stimulates the pituitary, pineal, thyroid, and parathyroid glands
- also stimulates the immune and endocrine systems
- great stretch for the neck, shoulders and spine
- can help with flexibility in upper back
- stretches glutes and releases sciatica nerve
Be sure to have a look through the instructional photos also.
